What does trying have to do with it...I keep hearing "all the teams calgary is competing with got better"
I just don't see major improvements...most of the big deals were in the east

If we can replace Johnny's points with a guy like Hall and add a top 6 right winger I believe we'll be close.

If the Flames miss the playoffs I’m leaning towards him being fired. Let the new GM dismantle the core. Really waiting to see if The Sharks or Preds pull a panic firing.

You may be correct and again time will tell.
I think when Vancouver is healthy they got better by adding before the deadline, namely Toffoli and depth that sounds necessary with Domingue.
I think Vegas got depth and insurance by trading for Lehner and adding Martinez.
I will not start a #### storm by bringing up Edmonton and their moves, but I will say they are likely to make the playoffs and leave it at that.

Oilers are interesting. Andtheniseeyou could be a decent add but they really overpaid. Green will be defense Brouwer. I like Ennis but he doesn't move the needle much. They were already making the playoffs anyway but depth never hurts. What they might have done is make their off season a lot harder though.
Canucks, I really like the add of Toffoli, but their fate will still rely on the same thing it did before anyway. Will Markstrom be solid in the playoffs? Especially when he returns from injury.

I think people put way to much stock in July 1st and the trade deadline. I get it fans just want their teams to be busy, but how many "winners" do really well? NJ was a July winner, last year stl picked up one depth D for a 6th. Year before Washington pretty much the same. When was the last time a winner actually won? More mistakes are made on July 1st and TDL trying to keep up with the Jones'.

I suspect AA will produce offensively if paired with McDavid - certainly he can match his speed.
But there are a lot of red flags with that kid in terms of overall play, coachability and attitude.

For sure. Does turn Neal into a bigger anchor though, especially if he takes his PP slot like I imagine he would.
They're better than they were yesterday, no question. Their summer will be a real interesting one

That's one of their issues - they now have two guys: Neal and AA who basically are anchors 5 on 5.
Maybe their plan is just to out score everyone.
Which frankly isn't a bad idea given how their team is built.

I’m not super worried about those Red flags.
Holland was his former GM. If anyone really knows him it’s Holland

My brother made a good point earlier, he said "PP specialist" sums up their whole team right now. But that probably doesn't bode well for playoff success

Maybe, but when I read about AA a whole lot pops out to me as the total opposite of what Tippett likes. I don't see that being a good fit

Well if anyone can reel him in, it’ll be Tippett

I hate the Oilers as much as the next person but they definitely got better today, does that put them into cup contention? No, but I'll give Holland some credit. He saw a real team weakness last year (team speed) and he has made moves to address it. Hopefully they fall flat down the stretch and miss but I don't see it happening.

I'm not super worried either because there's red flags with Holland too.

The player that I think the Flames probably tried to get and appeared to miss out on was Trocheck. Looking at the return the Panthers got it was a price I think the Flames could have paid. Jankowski, Czarnik, Kylington, Gawdin appears to be a similar package. Maybe Bennett’s name is in the mix and or a 2nd rounder but the Flames should have the assets. I guess Talon liked the Canes players more but weird he would trade him for a pending UFA, college free agent AHL Dman, so-so prospect, and bottom 6 player.
Add Trocheck to the Dmen they picked up I think the Flames could have won the day. Instead the hurricanes did.

I feel like Tre had 2 options:
1. Do nothing and fix the team in the offseason
2. Upgrade the bottom 6
Going with none of the above and throwing picks at D-man wasn’t what anyone was expecting, unless Tre knows about some nagging injuries to our D that we don’t.

It's no secret, and Treliving spoke about this at his post-deadline presser: Hamonic is not yet even skating, and is still weeks away. Valimaki is still weeks away. Both may not even play a game before the playoffs begin.
