Regardless of this hypothetical trade Flames will have to take on bad contracts in some of the trades we make this year.
The sentiment around here is that we fill the roster with the recent draft picks and journeymen AHLers. That means going forward the Flames need to take on a few boat anchor contracts to balance out the ELCs/$1mil contracts that first year NHLers are paid to, again, reach that cap floor. Cap is projected to be $113.5mil in the 27/28 season. Nurse's $9.25 will only capture 8% of that so will be easier to stomach as the years go on.
Added benefit is that Nurse is bad and will help the tank/accumulation of high picks.

You don't take on that many years as a cap dump or to get to the floor. And Nurse is not someone who they need in the room at all.

Also, why take back $9.25M when you're only sending out $4.55M?

Conroy wants to build a winning culture. Nurse doesn't know anything about that.
I hate when an Oiler goes to the Flames or vice versa. There are some players that you don't mind seeing it happen to but otherwise, it is just a bad idea.

There seems to be quite a contingent of posters who seem to think that won't be the case because the Flames will eat a pile of dead duck salaries. Personally, I can't see that happening, and yesterday while driving to Kelowna I heard guys on 960 (Marchesi, Gazdic and Kelly?) saying that if the Flames trade off vets they will need to pick up young roster players as well as picks. That's my feeling too, as all picks seems like pushing everything WAY too far forward for the fan base (and probably ownership?). And, as we've been told, Edwards will, but doesn't like to, pay people not to work (but we all remember Darryl...right?).

That has always been the narrative that the Flames would never retain because of that, but I think that was blown out of the water with the Markstrom retention. The Flames will retain if it makes sense.

As long as they stay out of the top 12 they lose their first rounder to San Jose.

Agreed. I want them sentenced to the mushy middle where there is no hope on the horizon. I'll suffer more Oilers wins if it means keeping them out of the lottery.
Especially keep them out of the top 12 this season so they have to send their pick to SJ. Although it would be funny if they got the 12th OA this season and had to send SJ an unprotected 1st next season. It's just not worth the risk though. The Oilers and the draft lottery is such a dangerous mix.

Moneypuck actually has the Oilers well below the Flames on their power rankings. The Oilers are at a hilarious -6.25%, so they are actually less than no good.

Not ideal if we're hoping for the best for the Flames.
(Although that's hard to tell on here...depends on what one considers "best", I guess?)

Yep, pretty much.
Edit: found it. It was a Draisaitl goal against Columbus.

My answer is yes. Nurse doesn't waive though so...

Change Nurse for Ekholm and I would do that deal.

There needs to be a couple more 1st Rounders before I'd agree to it.

Always the Oilers press blaming the guys who are roster fillers and the goalies.

Surely you don't expect the Oiler fanboy media to call out the glitter twins do you??? They might have to have a meeting with Kevin Lowe deep in the bowels of Rogers Place.
