Bennett has been pretty good for the Panthers in the regular season but his real value is in the playoffs. He's been PPG in the last couple of ones and brings that kick ass mentality which is needed.

But still on pace for 500 goals and 1200 points then?

He does still bring it for the playoffs but with his low hockey IQ it is not a good mix with mentally fragile 1st round playoff teams like Florida and Calgary.

Until he takes a penalty that costs the team game 6 and gets suspended for game 7.

Haha could be. If he hasn't learned from that then it's a big failure by him but I'd expect that he did.

I think he returned to form when he arrived at Florida. He's rounded into a 25 goal, 50 point player that has a physical presence. They added Giroux 17 games ago and the reality is that there's only one puck and a whopping 10 players with over 40 points. I haven't paid a lot of attention of late but I would assume he's not getting a lot of time on the PP now with players like Giroux and Reinhart ahead of him. Like a Blake Coleman he's a guy who's game translates better to the playoffs than the regular season.

I don't know for sure but it seems like Marchment is getting more ice time. Then you add guys like Lundell. They just have a silly deep forward group.

We should bump this thread every time he doesn't score now.

In hindsight with Monahan out for the season, It would have been nice to have Bennett to push Backlund for the 2nd line center, but there is no way he is a good enough player to push Lindholm out. In order to produce, it seems like he needs that premium ice-time with the best players.

Of course, if we still had Bennett, we might not have Toffoli now, so the butterfly effect stuff has to be considered.

He likely plays for Seattle in that case. If they prioritized Monahan then trading Bennett was only logical. It was especially so after he requested a trade.

I refuse to consider any highlight package as acceptable unless it refers to 18 year old Sam Bennett

Night off for Bennett.

No word as to whether he was injured, important enough to rest for the playoffs, or just a healthy scratch.

I hear he'll be on waivers tomorrow for the purpose of mutual termination.

So, Sam Bennett's breakout season ended up being 49 points in 71 games.

He's fine. Good, even. But we spent how much time getting all up in arms about this player?

He's fairly paid on his current contract. Not overpaid, certainly not underpaid. He's a complimentary player who plays with an edge. He also rode a ludicrous on-ice shooting percentage.

He's not the same type of player in terms of style, but Bennett's level of production next to Huberdeau reminds me of what Ryan Strome has done next to Panarin. And I don't think anyone is giving up a first-round pick for Strome.

Fine player. Fine season. Good trade for Calgary. We can thank him for Toffoli and Jarnkrok.

We would have been thrilled with a 57 point (projected) Bennett. Would have had to play him with skill players to get there, Panthers have him fifth among forwards in average ice time.

Didn't work out. Happy for the guy. Time to move on.

He got 49 points...being constantly injured and suspended isn't a plus. 49 points for 4M or whatever on the highest scoring team in the league.

Good season but nothing to lose sleep over...we have an over 100 point forward that 2 of our biggest rivals gifted us in the draft.
