But you have to admit...A24 films are not exactly 'standard fare for the average movie-goer.'
Most people who would have accidently wandered into a showing of 'The Lobster' probably would have leaned heavily on the phrase "WTF is this?"
The average person has poor tastes when it comes to movies. Throw a cape on an actor, some special effects, save the world story full of plot holes, mediocre villain and you have a $300 million grossing movie for example. I would say on the average most A24 movies are pretty good and even at their worst are still creative and thought provoking as they don't get in the way of the director's vision.

Maybe as opposed to poor tastes, they go to movies to escape and be entertained? Not suggesting that A24 movies are not entertainment, but they are certainly on a different level from your standard escapist fare.

I don’t care much for Marvel’s pablum either. Texas Chainsaw Massacre II? Now there’s a film. A24 is fine for what it is if you’re into that self important slightly larger budget art house fare. It’s not for me. You guys get wild though I’m glad you enjoy it.

Sir you take that back! Infinity War was an epic achievement in film!

100%. Not everyone takes movie watching that seriously and I wouldn't equate enjoying a certain genre as having poor taste.
Now as it relates to the superhero genre, they have certainly become more predictable and less entertaining for me over the last two or three years,

Went to see Last Night in Soho yesterday, really enjoyed it. This is the kind of original idea people claim they want to see but then no one shows up to the theater. If you enjoy thrillers this one is a great physiological thriller, check it out in theatres.

Well the problem with that complaint is that theaters are so expensive now it only makes sense to go for the big blockbusters that get the most out of the big screen and sound. Why would I pay $50-60 at the theater when I can spend $0 when it hits streaming and have a better experience at home?

I would say that streaming isn't free. You have to pay a monthly subscription fee for each one, so depending how many streaming services you have, it could end up costing you over $60/month. If you have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Crave, Disney + , Shudder it all adds up.
Plus for me, there is value added to enjoying a movie with other people. I've missed the shared collective experience when watching a movie, I've been watching movies at home for almost 2 years now because of Covid, I'd like to see Movies with other movie goers.
During a movies life cycle it's only very briefly in theatres anymore, I suggest going out to watch quality movies in a theatre regardless if they are big blockbusters or not. The more that people go out and support original ideas and movies the more it sends a signal to Hollywood that there is still a market for those movies and the more that will get made. You only get like 6 weeks to experience movies on the big screen now a days and if people stay home soon it will be 4 weeks then 2 weeks then never.
Not everyone is a sad single lonely man like you and I are. Most people go with someone else, but some popcorn and a drink, you know the whole experience. $60 at the movies for two people is very easy to do.

Just because we're not single, doesn't mean we're not sad. Especially when we spend $60-100 for a movie.

Disagree...$60 at the movies is still pretty cheap even for 2 people.

I remember seeing Midsommar in a packed theatre. A lot of girls nights out and date nights based on the audience.
I've never seen a more uncomfortable looking row of people. My friend and I being horror junkies had a blast with it, utterly contrasting the experience of those on either side of us. I'd wager most didn't know exactly what they purchased tickets to.
There were a lot of disturbed/disgusted faces in our direction with how much fun we were having with that one, since we were big Hereditary fans going into it.
But that was on those people for getting tix to an A24 Ari Aster feature and expecting a charming little film about qaint life in a scandinavian village.
Well, Watched the Eternals. As a movie it's okay. Not great, but not terrible. The "plot" is kind of pointless if you stop and think about it too much, but it looks great, it's well directed and the cast is mostly decent, except for Angelina Jolie who had a role that was way too difficult for her acting range, and Salma Hayek who was never much an actress either.
Richard Madden was a succesful typecast choice in a key role as Ikarus, and and Brian Tyree Henry was so much a standout that I might actually want to see that character again.
I mostly really wish this had nothing to do with the MCU. On some level I enjoy this kind of bonkers cosmic stuff, but I just don't want to see how they could ever succesfully mix these events with the rest of the MCU. The scale is just so bonkers that no matter how well things are done, I can't see it working, as it barely works on it's own. This and the Loki series clash horribly already
Strong "jumping the shark" vibes for the MCU honestly. Lots of awkward giggling in all the wrong spots in the theatee, that to me sounded like people just couldn't buy into what was going on.
I can't wait for Phase Four to be over already, as I really feel it's going to just get worse before it gets better.
After seeing Dune this week I went on a little Arrakis binge and finally watched Jodorowsky's Dune. Really interesting documentary and kind of sad that the final movie never made it to the screen. It would've been the most glorious of trainwrecks!

Old Henry was fantastic. It's a real slow burn action western, and perennially underrated Tim Blake Nelson pours his heart into it. The film was just so pure and authentic
