Meh, Iggy demonstrated something pretty clearly, that being he was looking out for himself during the trade process. It has not soured me towards him in the least, but, as a Flames fan, it was my queue to do the same. When his cup drive has nothing to do with a Flames draft pick, I will cheer, til then... no chance.

Would this three way trade make sense for all teams involved and be realistic?

52nd Overall Pick From Vancouver
To Calgary
2nd Overall Pick From Florida
31st Overall Pick From Florida
To Vancouver
6th Overall Pick From Calgary

No, not first overall- OUR first pick. Watched him in the bronze medal game and several highlights on the internet. I am not an expert on the guy, but to me, he looks like Malkin or Jagr out there- a big man who is so talented at puck possession, gifted passer, and a knack for getting around the D and cutting to the net. He is very hard to get the puck away from him due to his reach and stick handling ability. This guy can go end to end effortlessly- he just makes it look so easy. Sometimes you can just watch a player and know that he is a special talent and could be dominant. Just wait until he gets older and bulks up a bit- he's gonna be a beast.

-Florida does not entertain this for a nanosecond
-Don't really see why the Flames should do Vancouver any favors by giving them three first rounders, just to move up from Lindholm/Monahan to Mackinnon
-Luongo is not going to get you a return proportional to the Flames' three first rounders. You will be very disappointed if you think his value is that high.
-"be realistic" seems like a contradiction when you are talking about moving several top 10 picks, various other 1st and 2nd rounders, and a massive contract in a three-way trade. Has anything this huge ever happened outside of Xbox land?

No. (A) Luongo isn't worth that and everyone knows Gillis is in a tough spot cap wise; (B) I wouldn't be able to continue on if MacKinnon ends up a bust and Monahan/Lindholm/Nurse/Barkov turns out to be a stud... as a Canuck... having been drafted with the Flames draft pick.

A) I Can see that angle and how it would decrease Luongo's value.
B) There would be a higher probability of the 4 players you mentioned being busts than there is Mackinnon. Plus whose to say the player Calgary picked 6th overall wouldnt be a bust anyways? A player succeeding with another team that you personally do not like instead of Calgary is not an objective way to assess the hockey value of a trade.

I guess my reasoning behind the proposal was:
1. The Flames get a second overall pick and get to select a potential Franchise Player and potential elite number one center. We need a new franchise player now that Iginla is gone and we have needed an elite number one center since we traded ours for Iginla 18 years ago.
2. The Florida Panthers would ironically get back Roberto Luongo, which would mean alot to them because their goaltending is sorely lacking and they need a great goaltender. I know there is alot of bias hate for Roberto Luongo because he is a Vancouver Canuck, but he is a bonafied number one goaltender and an allstar if one were to look at this objectively.
3. The Vancouver Canucks said they needed to restart things or something to that effect. Well what better way than 3 first round draft picks and unloading a goalie that they do not seem to want anymore, plus it gives them alot of cap relief.
Anyways thanks for the opinions from those who responded.

Of course Iggy would try to win against us if we were his opponent
What Flame wouldn't?
What a stupid reason to root against him.
I can see you rooting against him if you hate the Pens or want a good Flames draft pick. But because he would try to beat us? Lol. Okay there

I believe that Roberto Luongo has more value to Vancouver than a 30th overall draft pick.
However thanks for taking the time to review and modify the trade proposal.

I think the love affair between Florida and Luongo is one way.

Agreed.
But that's a very tough contract to move in today's salary cap NHL. They very well may have to make a tough call like that to rid themselves of it.
If I was a GM in this league, I certainly wouldn't want to do Mike Gillis any favours, he's dealing from a position of weakness.

Possibly. I think he's a very good goalie though, would be a move in the right direction for Florida to have him in net, IMO.
Either way, obviously not a popular proposal, moving on.

I wonder if we take a risk on Valentin Zykov with one of our late picks. High scoring right winger, but I think a pretty decent bust potential.

He's who I am hoping Calgary is able to take with the Pittsburgh pick.
Hope they grab a Defenseman with the St Louis pick, and a Center with their own.
Read this on Zykov.

I'd be very happy with Zykov or Hartman. Both are exactly what the doctor ordered for the Flames. I fear that Zykov though is going to be the big surprise of the draft and get taken in the top 15-20, I smell it.
Would also like very VERY much for the Flames to grab Mueller.

The more I read of Monahan, the more I see little upside beyond a second-line center. He seems to project as a solid third-line defensive center that can take draws, kill penalties, and pop in 15-20 goals. Craig Conroy may be a good comparison, a Selke candidate who can chip in offense, although Conroy was a better skater.
I'm still hoping for Lindholm or some way to get Nashville's pick.
Barkov > Lindholm > Monahan
