Interesting that Vasek is playing Joao Sousa next who is currently ranked #50 on the ATP tour. To get inside the top 50 I still think is attainable for Vasek, but he needs to work on his consistency and cutting down the unforced errors. He's been bouncing around #75 - #90 for the last while, a good Asian swing to end the year would certainly help.

It would for sure. He just needs to get out of his own way. Like you mentioned, the unforced errors seem to be his un-gluing every match I watch. I think he would have have much more success as a full time serve and volleyer but i'm not sure he can physically stand up to that.

Vasek just came up short in round of 16 earlier today. Highlights right here:

Come on Denis. You should be able to beat Nishioka! Get it together.

Bounce back.

Good start for Denis in set 2 as he breaks Nishioka.

And FAA takes the first set over Chung 7-6.

Shapo now up 3-0 in set 2 after dropping 1st set, and FAA just broke Chung to start his 2nd set. Very encouraging.

The good news? Shapo just broke Nishioka to take a 2-0 lead in the 3rd set.

The bad news? FAA got broken at love by Chung and are all square at 4 in their 2nd set.

Uh-oh. Nishioka just broke to peg back Shapo. Now 3-2 Shapo, third set.

Ouch. Double fault #6 for FAA gives Chung the break to take the 2nd set 7-5.

Sounds like Pops gave it a valiant effort, just came up a little bit short. Credit to Joao Sousa though, he's playing some very fine tennis of late.

Shapo having an annoyingly hard time putting Nishioka to bed in this match.

And he commits double fault #10 to lose his serve.

FFS. Shapo just got broken again. Down 6-5 in the final set and in real trouble now.

Get your stuff together man!

Oh man Dennis just can't get out of his own way the last few months. He has a far lesser player on the ropes and then completely comes undone to give the match to him....something is certainly off when he seems to routinely gets past the first or second round and then suddenly struggles against mediocre opposition.

At least Felix looks like he's poised to pull off a huge win against Chung and move on to another winnable match against Tomic.

And that's that. He's lost it to Nishioka.

Yeah. That really is one ugly loss for Shapo.

He seems unwilling to let up and wait for an ideal opportunity to attack his opponent. It's fun to watch, but it sure is not a recipe for consistent success on tour.
