Had someone come to our house and ask if we are happy with Joti Gondeck...because he wasn't. Get a life people and wait till 2025 for the election.
Was it her husband?

I think most people are this way with most "-ists" really. Like by definition I'm a feminist and an environmentalist, but you'd never really call me that and I won't be going to any protests any time soon
If there's one thing I really despise about the UCP is that they turned me into a political activist. And I hate politics.

If by "this", you mean the planet Earth.. ..well, it'll be fine. It's gone through a lot worse than whatever we can throw at it. It's seen countless of animals and plants and living things come and go. We're basically a temporary parasite.
If by "this", you mean our way of life... well you may have a point...up to a point. Humanity will likely not solve or prevent any global-scale environmental changes...but it most likely will adapt to them. I know it's de riguer to be a doomer about our future...but humans have been on this planet for about 200,000 years... we've lived through atleast a couple of ice ages, massive plagues, global wars, droughts and famines etc etc....and in that time we've come out the other side. Because the one thing we are good at is adapting. We adjust to changing conditions, we move and migrate (across continents if we have to), we build cities in the most inhospitable places, and we invent new technologies to help us along the way. We may be selfish, hateful, and short-sighted... but as a species we're nothing if not resilient!
Whatever world lies ahead may not be the same as it is today, but we'll most likely adapt to that too. Humanity will probably eventually destroy itself...but it will be at the hands of war or technology (or perhaps something from space...be it asteroid or living thing), but I doubt it will be because the temperature or sea levels rise or fall a few degrees. We'll get over it.
Having to ask for cutlery is a step too far, though.
The woke wacko radicals! They’re everywhere! They’re making me fellate my paper lids!
I think Slava has a point. The "whatever you want to call them" environmentalists that succeeded in moving Germany away from nuclear power, for example, are absolutely a problem.

And I think there is a pretty wide gulf between “I want to conserve water, reduce my carbon footprint, etc.” to “I’m using quick set concrete to cement my self to this road, or trying to smash the case of the Magna Carta to Just Stop Oil”.
And on that front, I find it weird we have Just Stop Oil and no Just Stop Coal. Like we’re just letting that one slide?

The weird thing about the Magna Carta incident is that the people involved are octogenarians which is way out of the norm for the typical demographic that does this stupid stuff.

You say that all like it’s no big deal. Don’t worry we’ll get over whatever hurdles we face. And we might. But that’s kind of glossing over the fact that it could mean that billions die in the process. And our way of life completely disrupted. Those are some pretty big sacrifices.

OK, I just heard about this one. It's kind of adorable.
And the gentle British security guard? "Please stop filming. Please don't do that." So nice!

What an excellent post! Another factor to add would be the trillions of public and private money bet on green and requiring constant propaganda machine support pounding on everyone to get on board with all the spending and sacrificing.

"Just Stop Oil."
Say the old-timers who have used, profited and luxuriated in its wonders for their entire lives.
But now we need to stop?
Say members of the Generation that enjoyed cheap Oil, Fuel and Energy for their entire lives? But....now they need to take a stand.
That security guard needs to tell their Old Folks Home that they're supposed to keep the doors locked on the inside so the inmates residents dont wander off.

Why does it matter who the messengers are when the message is right? Have you not taken advantage of something that you now feel any bit of regret over? I think most of us here have some bit of self-awareness that we have not left behind a better world for the generations coming up behind us.

Because its not right. Its just pandering nonsense to idiots.
Yes. We need to phase it out, but what do you think their Pacemakers are made out of? Hopes and Dreams?
'Just Stop Oil' is nonsense.
Hell...what do you think Solar Panels are made out of??
Oil literally greases the wheels of our alternative energy industry. We're working our way down in terms of usage but 'Just Stop Oil?'
I cant take that seriously. Thats ridiculous.

Yeah, cool. But we also produce more stuff than we could possibly need or use. We fill landfills and ship heaps of trash full of the stuff produced by oil to other countries to deal with. We don’t just use fossil fuels, we overuse them. “Just stop oil” isn’t even about stopping the use of oil, it’s about stopping the licensing of new fossil fuel projects. You can make an argument for or against that, and that’d be fine, but “oil makes stuff” sucks as an argument. Who actually takes that seriously?

Did you brush your teeth this morning? What was the last thing you touched that was plastic?
How do you plan on replacing that? Just stop?
Thats why its ridiculous. "Just stop" is about as useful as the "War on Drugs"
"Just Say No!"
And look how swimmingly that went.

You’re not even coming close to making a coherent point here. You sound like one of those people who saw “Black Lives Matter” and their first reaction was either “ALL LIVES MATTER! NOT JUST BLACK LIVES!” or “who said they don’t matter? Name ONE PERSON who said they don’t matter!” while missing the point as hard as they possibly could.
I don’t know man, just use your noggin on this one and see if you can think past the punchy name. You might even figure out what the movement is trying to achieve.
Wouldn’t that be something… reacting to more than the name of something. I dreamed a little dream…

I don’t think it’s reaching to call out the hypocrisy of protesters calling for the end of something they still actively use.

If there slogan was limit oil to 20-40 million barrels per day instead of 100. Would that make you happier? Because the next 10 years of policy is the same either way.
