I'm not sure he was offside on the 2nd pass. I can't remember now.

Nice shot to win it. Can't believe how much Spanish diving Webb bought into, no horrible oversights other than that missed corner 45 seconds before the winning goal but an absolutely awful job of reffing. No flow to the game at all.

Iniesta goal was completely onside, but like octothorp said that play should have never been allowed to happen in the first place. Overall a terrible match to watch as a result of horrific refereeing, not even the nice Iniesta finish and a couple great saves could salvage it.

Well that is 120 minutes of my life I'll never get back. The worst final in recent memory. Only 1990 can possibly rival that match. For the first time in the entire tournament I felt that the BBC commentators and pundits lost their impartiality and were passionately rooting for Spain. Maybe they all have summer homes in the Costa del Sol?

I don't watch a lot of soccer, and don't have a dog in the fight but that was brutal to watch. I don't mind nil-nil, but like the BBC guys said, this world cup won't be remembered for the actual quality of the games played.

Bit of a hard final to watch but nontheless happy to see Spain win. They are very good and I won't have to hear "hup holland hup" for the next 4 years.

I think Germany will have a very good chance in 2012 and 2014 - I really hope Klose decides to come back.

well everything i've seen from this world cup has left me extremely umimpressed. officials who don't seem to know what constitutes a good goal or who can't call correctly their own offsides rule (which seems silly to me in the first place to make it an invisible line along the last defender's position), extreme amounts of diving that put every other sport in the world to shame, and those godamn vuvuzelas

every world cup i try to give soccer a shot and try to see what so many see value in, but nothing ever grabs me. oh well, at least i can peacefully forget about it for another 4 years

WOOOO spain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and the goal was NOT offside, even on the first pass he was NOT offside, he then went back for the second pass to ensure he was NOT offside.

but yea, this world cup will be remembered for the reffing errors and all the fouls that were and were not (players were not playing too fair, but also some were exagerating this)

however, that being said, I thought this final was one of the better called games I've seen during the tournament, but Spain also played far better and had more chances in my opinion

saying all that

congrats spain!!!!!

Spain deserved the win. Dutch were too undisciplined all game. They would've had their chance to win had they maintained more focus, but they just weren't keeping it together mentally.

I would say The Dutch brought a lot of that on their own. There were a number of hard tackles and rough play in the first half and Webb had to take some control. When you get yellow after yellow something is going to give.

I agree the Spanish did flop around like fish at times but you knew that going in so don't play to their "strength". Both teams had some hot heads in the first half, they needed to cool down and just play. They didn't and as a result the flow was tough to establish. Puyols (aka Mike Ricci) could easily have been out, and like what was said above , Robbin goes down like he's shot and it likely would have. The missed corner was very poor.

No, you use the last defender as the "line". The box has nothing to do with it. The goal was totally on side.

The funny thing to me is that the only team that didn't lose a game in this tournament is New Zealand.

Well I can't say that the Dutch deserved to win. But what a pathetic game, reffing was horrible (though no necessarily unfair), Holland couldn't mount too much and seemed to be just off a bit. Spain drew alot of fouls, fair or not...they were better in the midfield and I guess in the end it paid off.
Congrats to Spain.

Considering I didn't know who he was until today, I can't believe how much I dislike Robben already. All I saw of him today was dives and crying to the ref. Is he kinda known for that, or just caught up in the moment? Happy to see Spain win, if only for the reason that I picked them before the tourney started.

Why do you bother? For example I hate horse racing. I don't care how big or hyped up the triple crown is I don't watch it cause I'll hate it.

So why bother watching the next World Cup? Soccer isn't the sport that interests you so watching it in 2014, 2018 or whatever, it'll frustrate you more!

Not a good final to say the least and maybe I'm in the minority here but I'm glad the Spanish won. The Dutch were completely undisciplined and didn't deserve it.

Spain were the better team.

Congrats to them.

WhaaA?? you were watching the same game right? Definately onside on the second pass, definately offside on the first, but since it never came to him then no foul.

As for the officiating in this game, it was a brutal, just because it was better then some of the other crap doesn't mean it was good. You could tell after 3 minutes it was going to be floptastic because the ref was eating everything up.

I thought Spain was the better team and deserved the win though. I actually fell asleep during extra time and missed the goal it was such a great game....

Referee Webb handed that game to the Spaniards. Absolutely terrible match. FIFA really needs to take a long hard look at the diving and they must realize that this sport is quickly running out of integrity.
