Maybe, but I think this is mostly rock bottom, and really, the end for the collection of players that was supposed bounce back from the loss to the Mariners in the playoffs 22 months ago and the Twins 10 months ago.
The way the front office handled Kiermeier this week seems to shake up the mood these last days, to one of resignation as if it is the end and now everyone is in the mode and mentality of preparing to lose teammates in a supposedly close clubhouse.
All while the hitters still don't hit consistently, the starters feel they have to be perfect every game, which wears in them and the bullpen is the worst in the league in a number of categories.
You get the sound resignation coming through the words of Dan and Joe on the broadcast, who are around the team a lot during the days.
Vlad will come back from the all star game probably pretty annoyed with the Jays execs after talking with all the other stars, and knowing he's not going to be in a team going anywhere the next 2.5 months. Hopefully he does some recruiting while there.
Everyone else on an expiring contract will be making esrly arrangements to move on within the next couple weeks, have the chats with Atkins or whoever, and try and play their way into a trade.
So for all intents and purposes, this series is the last one of note for the opening day 2024 Jays, the mentality switches after the all star game. All while letting the same guy who didn't properly construct the team the last 1-4 years, in Atkins still have control of the wheel for these next set of franchise altering moves.
The team will look worse and get bad results through August, but that's becuase the team will be Vlad plus maybe Bo plus Buffalo players, and having to throw Pearson and Pop out every second game, while Garcia, Kikuchi, Richards and others, maybe Turner and Kiermeier and IKF, go to playoff contenders as role players.
