The more I look at that defence the more I think someone is being traded from Hanifin, Kylington, or Valimaki.

If negotiations go poorly with Kylington, dealing him for a similar standard forward would rebalance the team.

If they are worried Hanifin is gone in 2 years, either due to being American or wanting more money than can be afforded, he would get a legit top 6 forward in return.

Valimaki has the least value to move, but if you manage to keep Kylington at reasonable price and want to run back with Hanifin, maybe a deal for another team's forward who needs a change of scenery.

I see this team being geared up for a run this year and possibly next, then a transition year, then another tilt, provided they have guys like Huberdeau and Lindholm to power them forward

To be honest I would be ok with the roster (Mangi and Kylington signed) to start the year. D is stronger. Forward group is weaker, but with some wild cards like Pelletier, Philips and Ruzicka, and internet growth from Mangiapane and Dube. Maybe some Monahan bounce back.

Bank som cap, and fill holes once we’ve seen how this roster.

Obviously Tre will be on the hunt for bargains, and some will arise with the Cap problems that are out there, but no urgency or desperation.

I want the Flames to win it all with Monahan on the roster. I’d love that guy to battle back, and show his fellow rebuilders who have exiled themselves (Benny, Chucky, Johnny) that Calgary was the place to be.

Man looking at Necas his stat line is eerily similar to Lindholm’s right when we got him; Lindy was a 39 to 45 pt guy across 4 full season before going to Calgary and having a 27 goal 78 point breakout year to start his career as a flame. Necas could be a sneaky guy to target but needs a lot of work before I’d consider him a full time centre and needs to round out his 200 foot game.

Flames are in a position of strength and as much as I love Hanifin I could see the reasoning in trading him now to gain some value at an all-time high from him. I counter the notion it would take Hanifin + Zary to land a player like Necas and suggest that a + and potentially even another + gets added to get a D like Hanifin.

At any rate this is an exciting time out of no where with the big splash Treliving made trading Chucky, so many options to consider. No sense getting upset over speculation in the trade/speculation thread, better to discuss all the potential!

I really don't blame Bennett for wanting out. He was misused. Should've been playing his natural position.

Yes I agree with you. How Carolina feels about him ma be dictated by how his RFA negotiations are going.

Should of been a better player.

Ya,he magically became a better player as soon as he left. No, he was misused by incompetent coaches. And I think Sutter had him on the right track back. That trade was obviously out of Sutter's control.

I haven’t watched a lot of Panthers games but wasn’t he playing a lot, at least at the start, with Huberdeau? That probably didn’t hurt.

Didn't Bennett say before he was traded that he loves playing for Sutter? It's really too bad that expansion draft happened and the Flames had to trade him or lose him for nothing.

He was playing there because Quenville viewed him as good enough to be their second line centre. I believe Quenville called the trade a homerun when it happened. Head coaches typically don't say stuff like that unless they really like the player coming in.

Still not really impressed with Bennett and could argue he was a product of Huberdeau. Also outproduced by Anthony Duclair. If you told me in 2014 Bennett would "break out" by scoring 28 goals and 47 points I'd be disappointed actually.

While playing on a line with someone who put up 115 points.

So Lindholm will get 50 and Huberdeau should get 160 points this year.

Bennett was trending up sharply under Sutter before departing to Florida. I have zero doubt that Sutter would have turned him around.
