Anyone had any luck dealing with water hammer?
I'm having a problem with the toilet on my main floor. I don't have any issues anywhere else in my house. Nothing wrong with the kitchen or the bathrooms on the 2nd floor.
House was built in 2018 and has Pex throughout.

Any recommendations for a plumber?
I think one of the later pipes in my basement has a hairline crack in it. I found water on my utility room floor. I was able to hear a misting type of sound coming from the ceiling of the utility room. The weird thing is that it seems like the water pipe goes into some air intake vent and that's where the leak is. There's very little water on the floor joists as far as I can tell. It doesn't seem like it is the hot water tank leaking, but I could be wrong and I have a double whammy.
After trying to trace the source of the water, I shut off the water main and drained the water from the pipes. I also shut off my hot water tank because the water was dripping down right on top of it. Is there anything else I should be doing to prevent further damage?

I would never have thought of putting wall paper in the pantry, let alone a flowery one like that. But holy smokes does that look pretty. I might just copy that straight up!
Nice job.

I have ugly crown moulding on several things around the house - upper kitchen cabinets, nooks, etc. I strongly dislike it. I have to do some drywall repair anyway, am I safe to just pull that stuff down? It doesn’t go all the way up to the ceiling.

Can you see behind it on the upper cabinets, even if you can get a phone behind it to get pictures? You’d want to see how it is secured, and positioned in relation to the cabinet before going to it.
In nooks, it’s probably just pinned with brad nails. You could cut the joint at adjacent painted wall/ceiling with a knife first so it doesn’t pull paint off the rest of the area and then gently pry it and see if it comes off easy.

Are you sure it’s water hammer? I thought water hammer was only a problem with copper pipes. That bang you’re hearing might be something else.

I think it's water hammer. I can see the pipes shaking in the basement when it happens.

$115 per box, we needed 7 boxes to cover the wall.

Good call using a real product. I see all types of attempts at feature walls and the cheap ones (vinyl sheets) really stand out for the wrong reasons.

Appreciate that. The product at Lowes that I installed in my old house is $200/box regular price and it covers the same square footage. This is a way better deal so I will likely use this in my new place instead.

Why is it standard practice to run a hard cold water line to the kitchen when the rest of the house uses softened water?
Is that government code to reduce sodium in diets or something?

I always assumed it was the myth that you didn't want to drink softened water.

It's only an issue if you have really hard water (requiring more salt) and you have existing issues with salt intake (high blood pressure). And even then you can just use potassium chloride instead of salt

Can anyone recommend a local siding repair company? We took down an old deck and need the support joist removed from the foundation and the affected siding patched up. Any tips?
