So we parked at Goat Creek and headed south. Trail is decent for the first bit then turns into basically a narrow road with a nice boardwalk section through a swampy area, then some roadway until the dam. You cross there, then pick up single track that follows the lake until the boat dock. This section has some loose rock sections, hopefully when the trail settles in it improves. Past Driftwood you cross the highway and start climbing. Not my favourite section as it is more loose rock. There are lots of dips on the climb that don't give it a good rhythm. I'm not sure this section was actually built by someone who builds trails, or knows good trail building practices. Suddenly though, I think someone new took over because you start descending down a really nice section of bermed switchbacks until you hit the road again at West Wind Pass hiking trail. This was where we turned around, as I was with my dad, who is closing in on 70. He doesn't ride a lot of single track, but did OK. I'm not sure I'd bring my wife on this trail though.
Overall impressions of what we rode are decent, but the loose rock sections make it unsuitable for people who aren't confident, which is a bit of a shame. Hopefully they fill with dirt and solidify a bit. Signage is good, not great. Look for the coaster sized white Trans Canada Trail markers. The map I posted above is on several posts along the way.
I'll probably try it again with my hardcore friend who will destroy me, but we should make it further. Arranging a shuttle would be the best option if you want to ride the whole thing. If you just want the single track you wouldn't miss much by starting at the dam.
Oh, bring along a fast friend to ride in front to clear spider webs. My handle bars were absolutely covered with them. And my face. Ugh.
