I'm sure it can clear it out like that, but with the north wind bringing it in, it's a continuous supply. So it may have been washed out, but more keeps coming.

It woke me up, but after a few minutes I let the wonderful sound of rain wash over me and I slept like a bullfrog.

Some rain drops would capture smoke particulates, but you’d need the rain to fall through every possible bit of volume of space that the smoke occupies to capture it all. It’d be a run physics problem to work out.

Yeah, I could see the argument of it having a somewhat “clearing” effect of a small amount of particles while it’s actually raining, but I don’t entirely understand the idea of why it would have any impact afterward. It’s not like the smoke moves in and just hangs there idle in one spot.

That was very rude of the thunderstorms last night! Usually they wrap up the show by a reasonable hour.
Even stranger was after the bulk of the rain the smoke outside was pervasive and thick.
Looks like we had southerly winds carrying that nastiness in.

Rain does help but it depends on the intensity of the storm, and the amount of particulates in the air. And it's temporary.

Best storm of the year by far. Started around midnight....and from 1-3 was the craziest thunders I've heard in a few years...enjoyed the storm so much I decided to just play Baldur's gate 3 all night while the storm rolled through lol...could still see lightning and the odd thunder at 4:30 am when I finally decided to go to sleep.

Farmers Almanac throwing out wack predictions.
El Nino winter and they're saying southern bc will have a bone-chillingly cold one. Yeah right. I'll believe it when I see it.
Northern maritimes with the mildest conditions. Rest of mainland will see a deep freeze, including Ontario. Also skeptical there.
Going to wait for the professionals to weigh in. I think it will be mild one, in particular out west.

Well they need to switch out their crystals because they're not bringing positive energy.
I've always imagined it as a blind 80-something year old farmer named Bill licking his finger and holding it up in the air then mumbling predictions to his scribes.

Big old sinkhole opened up on the TCH, eastbound, right after the Norquay exit. So, it's closed between Norquay EASTBOUND, to Compound Rd at the industrial area. They're detouring all that traffic through town, yikes. Apparently it's backed up to Louise. What a way to start the long weekend. Don't know if it's related to weather or not - have they had tons of rain lately? Hadn't really paid attention. Sounds like we had a massive storm last night, so I wondered if they did too and got enough to weaken that spot in the highway? What a mess.
Edited to add sceeenshot & update from the town of Banff:

According to Google it's backed up just past Sunshine, not to Lake Louise. The Castle Junction webcam confirms no backup there. But ya, sucky!

Ah, I was just going by the drivers on the Xitter/Twitter commenting that. I always forget about those cameras. Maybe they were caught just as it happened and it was a parking lot until they figured out the detour? Just glad I'm not caught in that.

It's also possible people in Xitter don't know what they are talking about. It's happened before!

Long way out but just saw a model predicting up to 40cm of snow next Thursday.
Also, Sunshine getting a good start on ski season apparently.

So the mountains got a dusting around banff?
Excellent. Golden larches and snow overlapping is the coolest.

Yeah I saw that yesterday in the forecast, it seems to be gone today (at least on Weather Network). But we'll see.
