You can make yourself vibration patterns with long dead time if you want and you can get visual voicemail. Sounds like you making a choice to differentiate them.

Both are intrusions into your time demanding an attention. The phone goes to voice mail with a quick description and ask for a call back the text does the same. Both create an annoying ring or vibration that distracts the recipient.
|
If my phone rings during work hours 98% of the time it’s a work related call and I’m going to answer it by default. If my phone vibrates for a text it could be work related, my parents texting something low urgency, friends about all sorts of things low urgency, my wife with friends in a group chat talking about Saturday night plans, Telus offers, spam, etc. I’ll check it when I take of break from the task.
If someone texts me to see if I’m free for a call, I was free when they were free but they didn’t use the magic telephone. Now when I read their text after sifting through the other 10 they’re no longer free for a call and it’s now back and forth “when are you free? I don’t know when are you free?… piss off with that.”

You’re seeing it from the perspective of not wanting to answer the call. I want to answer the call and get the reason sorted or at least the person knows I’m on it and there’s no tag for days.

I don’t know what field you’re in, but I can’t imagine thinking someone attempting to do their job, or trying to reach someone they’re paying to provide a service needing my time right now as selfish and rude. This has been fine for business to operate for decades and the texting generation has made business interaction awkward and high maintenance.

Isn’t the entire problem on both sides that individuals have decided to use them differently AND not communicate how they want other people to use them to contact them. Somehow I’m supposed to know to call top five and text calf.
Instead I’ll wait until you are red on teams ring once hang up then not respond to any of your messages.l asking why I called.

"Hi, I'm not available right now. Please leave your name, phone number and a short message and I'll get back to you as soon as possible."
"Hi, can someone call me back? I have a question."
The problem is (at least for me) that you have people who cannot follow simple instructions and then are just vicious and rude for no reason.
How so many people cannot understand the concept of a business not dropping everything to field a non-urgent or late inquiry, because penalizing other clients who followed the rules and are being reasonable... Other people dropped off their stuff several weeks earlier because of the deadline. Others dropped their #### off in early and mid October. You drop yours off in November and you're bitching that the work is typically done on the day before or the day of the deadline at the end of the month? Go #### yourself.
I get that people have unintentional last minute requests that are urgent. Just ask nicely. Don't be a prick. I have no issues breaking my back to do something for someone who is appreciative for it.
I spent several hours last week helping someone who was sending me on all sorts of wild goose chases until they got someone to help out and straighten out what was required and the instructions of where to get it to. I was not happy, but the individual was in duress and not in the right frame of mind so it wasn't something I held against them.
On the other hand I once got a phone call at 4:40 on a Friday for some information that the client wanted. I wasn't interested in fielding a call at that time, so I asked the client to email me what he needed. "Oh, it'll be quick." but still was a 15 minute phone call. I told the client I was in the middle of a project and since the request wasn't super urgent, I'd collect the information and do the calculation sometime by the middle of next week. Client agreed and even said, "Yeah, I don't need it right away. Take your time." Literally 9:15 or something like that on the next Monday morning, I get an email forwarded from another colleague that basically read, "DoubleF promised me some information and I'm just following up on it because I haven't received anything yet." Our office hours at Monday to Friday 8-5. I told this guy I was busy as F and he sends an email like this 1.5 business hours after he made the phone call and making me sound like the #######? ####ing guy couldn't even email the right person?

Texts are never for anything official in a lot of industries. You cannot reasonably write something long or have a fluid conversation, and they are easily misconstrued. I nearly got fired from a job before for getting approval from a client through a text after the client denied giving approval and claimed to misunderstand the context of the text. Sometimes you really need to have a verbal conversation. Email is good, but they can also be ignored and you usually have to call first to get the email anyway. In my line of work, I call first, get their email, then follow-up with an email summarizing the discussion. After that, unless it is immediately urgent, email is my go to.
Or you can send a registered letter. Most of the time, you really don't want to get a letter. When it gets to that point, it won't be good for you.
I honestly can't really understand why someone would want to call back a number they don't recognize without first checking messages and knowing what you are getting into. A lot of my colleagues started using blocked numbers due to the amount angry call backs. They just leave a message and if you miss an important deadline because you don't check messages, that's on you. I haven't started blocking my number yet because I still like giving people a chance and most people don't answer blocked numbers these days.

You ever been at home and craved a meal or snack that you don't have, so it makes you crave it even more?
That grinds my gears when it happens. I want pyrogies so bad right now.

Its never like fruit or sweet stuff.

... and then you eat other stuff to try and make the craving go away... but it just makes you feel more empty and the craving amplifies...

Or how about craving a food that you are allergic or have a sensitivity to? I freaking love okra and crave it all the time, but I have a sensitivity to it and just a little bit wreaks havoc on my stomach, yet sometimes I can't resist it.

Bathroom keys in a professional building. Especially a medical office…like hey, let’s pass around an unfathomably disgusting item because it will reduce the odds of a junkie finding their way in by like 1%.
Gross.

Is that legal?
Seems like you should be able to request a refund if they are not going to provide the service you paid for.

####ty day at work makes me really want to say #### it, I’ll do something else. Write my resignation letter, save the draft. Then I remember I can hardly afford life as it is, and it’s freezing ####ing cold out so the side work I could do I actually can’t do for at least 6 months of the year in this province. Review all my hits for job postings and realize my company really does have me by the balls and I can’t leave and it’s as if they ####ing know it.
SMH. Be smarter with your money when you’re young so by the time life really beats you down you have some freedom to fight back. Cuz taking it on the chin with some fake ass smile on your face is some next level bull####.

If you can change your paradigm, I may suggest freelancing, my friend. All the benefits of working for yourself, setting your own pace, schedule, projects (and rates!), and hardly any of the corporate BS that weighs on your soul. Nothing like letting your reputation precede your career rather than a corporation tell you what's up.
If you're good at something, there's always a market for it, with or without a boss.

I think the business development aspect and getting customers for a constant stream of work is probably daunting for some people / personalities. The risk of a dry-spell is probably also quite stressful.
