Still can't get enough of watching Lindholm one-time feeds from Gaudreau, or snipe top corner with his RHS. His muffin shot must have been an urban myth (or he spent all summer working on it). He shoots as good as anyone of the team.
Lindholm absolutely destroys his career high. Like, Hulk smashes it to oblivion. Over a PPG pace.
Hanifin stabilizing the back end, and could quietly hit 40 points by season's end. Dougie who??

Lindholm has already set a career high in goals and points at the halfway point of the year. I was really hoping Treliving was going to trade Dougie for a first line RW last summer and he did not disappoint.
The way this trade has evolved this year it looks like a no brained. Lindholm is the best player in the deal Lindholm > Hamilton. I don’t know many people that wouldn’t trade Ferland and Fox for Hanifin. This trade made our offense and defense so much better
Treliving needs to be the front runner for GM of the year

His competition is probably:
George McPhee (VGK)
Jason Botterill (BUF)
Kyle Dubas (TOR)
Botterill created a surprise team by accident. Credit for doing it, though.
Dubas fell into Tavares, and has a cap quagmire looming.
The only real case you could make, IMO, is for McPhee, who re-tooled and upgraded that Vegas team, which seems back on track.
Problem for Treliving will be goaltending. However, if Rittich can keep it up, and Smith doesn't falter any further and continues to provide solid relief then the Flames are absolutely contenders, and it really hinges on this trade, smart drafting, and superb cap management (mostly through contract negotiations).

If history has taught me anything, Dubas will walk away with it for having Pyjama Sam fall into his lap.

Interesting thing to Ponder:
Looking at the team is this trade the biggest move BT has made in the last 2 years, or is it singing BSD to a contract???
I'm pretty sure the fact he did both is pretty awesome!

Its looking like A top ten trade in Flames history, especially if they win the Cup. Defintely the best trade BT has made.
BT’s work the last year and the payoff of some great drafts has been really fun to see. Glad i was wrong about coach and this trade.

I think most of the credit for BSD has to go to whoever the European scout is. What a find.

Half a season into the trade both Ferland and Hamilton are once again in trade rumors.

Only reason Ferland is because pending UFA and the team is a tire fire. Hurricanes can’t let him walk for free. This trade has looked bad enough already.

I wonder if we could get Ferland for a second at the deadline?

I don't get why we would want Ferland back. If he wasn't on the 1st line he was invisible. And don't say because of the 2015 playoffs.
As for Hamilton it wouldn't shock me to see him end up in Toronto.

Hanifin with 23 points now. He could definitely hit 40.
The offense is a nice bonus but he his defensive play is even better. Dougie always made me nervous and took horrible penalties. Hanifin and Hamonic have been amazing together and having a strong second pairing has soldified the backend. Over the years the Flames have had some strong defences on paper but I cant think when the actual on ice play was this consistently good.
Lindholm has helped do the exact same thing to the offense.
This trade truly transformed the team.

I think TO will try really hard to get Hamilton this time around as I think he was very busy close to landing in TO from Calgary. Time to make it 3 for 3 as Fox won’t sign there either.

I think because we need right wing depth in the playoff and we know he had a decent fit on the team. So it’s lower risk then another UFA at the deadline.

We can do better than Ferland. The fact that we moved on from him and have done better speaks to that.

We have done better because Linholm is a much better talent. If Ferland managed to find his way back to Calgary he would get as much ice time on that line that Bennett gets. The other reason we are better is the trade solidified two really good pairings. Both the Gio - Brodie and Hamonic - Hanifin pairings have been stellar.

What I’m really enjoying is, after Fox refused to sign in summer for what I’d imagine was either a perceived lack of opportunity or he didn’t think the team was trending up, the Flames are now 1st in the West, with 3 rookie blue liners on the roster.
Screw you, Aaron.

Doubt Hamilton would do well under that Toronto media scrutiny!
