I know I shouldn't be but I'm starting to think about the winter months and purchasing a trainer. Does anyone have any recommendations for trainers in the < $500 range.

I'd love to get some data from my rides as well so that would be a feature I'd be interested in. Might need a separate Garmin for that?

Inadvertent typo, but I looked up the word....lol....anyways, like wheel sets on a bike, those come in pairs

I am hoping for a mild enough winter ala the previous one so i can stay on the road year round.

Sorry Calgary, with that statement I've probably guaranteed a record snow year now....

But in all seriousness I'd be looking for a similar set up

Nice bike. Looks to be in really good condition. I love the lugged steel.

My dad bought me a Sekine when I passed Grade 6 back in '77. It was a beautiful shade of blue. It was a ten speed which was awesome because all of my friends only had three or five speeds. If I recall, the wheel size was 26".

I see there is a similar black one for sale on kijiji:

Seller calls it a mountain bike haha. Aluminum? Lugged steel by the looks of it. $350.00 asking price is steep, though.

So disc brakes aren't legal because they let you stop more effectively?

It sounds like they should be mandatory.

I can change a tire way faster on a disc wheel. No dinking around with releasing brake cables, even if it is just a switch. Better yet, no risk of forgetting to re-engage brake cables.

Some jerk came into my back yard (while I was home, during the day) and stole my Cannondale Scalpel.
I loved that bike.

But, yeah, bike theft is up. 3000+ bikes last year. That's up 40% from the year before.

More people cycling but more property theft too.

Make sure you file a police report, most people think once a bike is stolen you are never getting it back which in alot of cases is true.

I can speak from experience that I've had my bike stolen twice and recovered by the CPS twice (it was actually the same bike that got stolen twice).

Both times it was recovered it was several months after it was stolen and was recovered as part of bike theft ring sting operations organized by the CPS.

In short the CPS does care about stolen bikes.

Lots of issues, running hydraulic lines through frames, have aerodynamic properties (discs aren't, due to their calipers), debate on rotating mass etc., debate on injuries. Most tri bikes are fancy TT bikes, where everything seems to count. Making disc brakes mandatory would be the only logical, albeit unattainable, end result.

My CX has disc however they are not hydraulic , better than canti's not nearly as good as hydraulics.
I have seen more new road bikes slowly adapting to mechanical disc. I think hydraulics are just a bit to heavy at this time but I'm sure that will change.

Rode the lazy lizard trail today in fernie, what a great ride. Went all the way to island lake lodge.

Coming back was lots of fun, as it is about 6 km's of mostly downhill flowy trail. I was thinking that I could make the jump to hyper-space on my Thunderbolt if I opted to stay off the brakes.

It's spreading beyond bikes unfortunately. At our inner city daycare, parents often have to leave their stroller outside due to space issues due to drop off. Someone stole one parent's stroller to flip for a quick $650 bucks (the going rate for a used one) the other day.

Today the wife and I did 20kms (with about a 1,000 feet of climbing) around and above fernie. The trails around the cemetery are fantastic (Eco-terrorist, kiddy-up, sidewinder, broken duerailler).

Everything is dry and dusty.

Hey, I announced back in May that I built my first wheel. It's on the bike, working great. I had my LBS measure my spokes for me..............I want to build another and have been tinkering with spoke length calculators. Has anyone tried EDD Spoke Calculator?

Going ot do a section of High Rockies Trail with my dad tomorrow. Anyone do this yet? Probably just go from Goat Creek until we are out of steam. Then turn around

^ I have been trying to get out on the HRT for over two months now and have been thwarted by weather or timing.

I have read nothing but good things about the trail and it seems to weather well and absorbs the rain.

Please provide a detailed report of your ride.
