Carol joining the Guv's group is kinda the same thing that happened last year though with Andrea. And that didn't work out very well. Definitely don't wanna see it again.

Joe Toye. The actor is a very good character actor, hope he's a good addition to the cast and not just a throwaway.

When they had the voice over conversation between the two before they actually showed them I thought, for a second, the voice was Carol's and let out an audible groan. Glad it wasn't her.

Looks like Kirk Acevedo aka Charlie Francis from Fringe.
Yeah, he's been in a lot of stuff, really good actor. Like MMF says, I hope they keep him on.

Loved the episode!
They are absolutely KILLING it with the music in the past few episodes. Oats in the Water, followed by the gov's flashback track were excellent selections.

The difference between Carol and Andrea though is that Carol knows about the Governor and his propensity for evil. Her joining him seems highly unlikely, her running into him seems more plausible.
That...setting...of the apartment is taken from the novel "Rise of the Governor". The only similarities though is the 2 girls and their dad and the apartment. In the book it's quite a bit different. Not to mention it's pre-Rick and near the beginning ZA.

On the whole, I have not been enjoying The Walking Dead this season as much as past seasons. This was the least interesting episode to date. The Governor from last season was a one-dimensional cartoon villain that by all rights should have had a mustache to twirl in most of his scenes.
Now, suddenly, the writers are trying to convince us that there is depth to his character and are portraying him as an almost sympathetic guy? Nice try. You know all of this is going to come crashing down when our buddy Brian runs into anyone he knows from his past. Anyone that witnessed the horrors and atrocities committed by his hand.
This episode felt like a back door pilot ( http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.ph....BackDoorPilot) and with a spinoff series already in the works, I pray to all beings holy that the producers weren't using this to gauge fan reaction to the Governor as the star in the new vehicle.

Really? I feel like this the most interesting, well written, and compelling the series has been since season 1. It's never been bad, but the pacing and character development has taken an enormous leap forward.

Agreed, found the last episode extremely enjoyable. Especially liked the naming for the episode, and the final reveal for the naming.
Also, finally placed the chick the gov'r bangs. She was from The Unit.

Season 4 is far and away the best they've ever done on the show.

As soon as I saw that girl I was thinking, she is too good looking for her to die this episode.

So far, seems like I'm alone in my views...
I have a hard time feeling any sympathy for the Governor and prefer the flawed comic villain to the character they seem to be trying to create now. I was one of those fans that rooted for Walt until the very end in Breaking Bad, but I think it's easier to get behind a character that started good and turned evil than it is to to cheer for someone who started out evil and is turning things around. The transformation in the former case is more interesting and says a lot about someone as to when they decide enough is enough and they cannot tolerate those actions anymore.
And as for what's been going on at the prison this season, I have to admit I did enjoy the "virus" angle and the threat that it created. Not a huge fan of the little girls or Hershel's decision to basically sacrifice himself to serve tea to all the sick people. That seems to be yet one more dumb decision in a series of many (fortify the fences, dummies) that members of Rick's group take on a daily basis. How some of these people have survived for so long defies explanation.
But back to Hershel and the virus, I wasn't done with that plot point yet and this break to flashback to the Governor's potential redemption interrupted that. Did the dog and kitty antibiotics cure the virus and save the prisoners? Who has been baiting the walkers? How did Hershel grow his leg back? What about Alcoholic Bob? Why has Michonne suddenly decided to speak aloud instead of just pout and scowl? Has Rick abandoned farming entirely or is he still tending to his gun garden?

Hershel did not grow his leg back, they found a prosthetic leg when they were out scouting.
Michonne is comfortable and part of the group, hence her opening up.
Alcoholic Bob, who was baiting the walkers, and your question about Rick could all be answered in time. It's 2 episodes of Governor back story, it's not like the season is over after those 2 episodes. I feel like you are being a little impatient with wanting answers about everything right now, and it seems like you aren't really paying attention when you watch the episodes otherwise you wouldn't have a question about Herschel and 'growing' a leg.

Who says the gov is turning good?
I lliked the episode, kinda showed how crazy this world has gotten, and how everyone who survives can get a second chance regardless of how bad they were.
I still don't think the gov is in any way turning good, he's just surviving, and the little girl reminds him of his daughter. He'll still screw over his old crew when he gets the chance, and he's going to do everything he can to bury Rick and crew.

I actually thought the latest episode actually told Gov's story a bit too fast (or at least he formed a bond way too quick with the family) - it was just a bit too cheesy. I don't particularly enjoy this season and feel as though I also won't like where it's headed either - probably a confrontation between the same to camps from last year with a few new people and Carol on the other side.
I still watch because it's easier now to keep up than not... but it's a whole lot of meh.

I was under the impression that the Governor was a good, normal family man before the Walkers. (I think Milton once mentioned that he had changed after assuming his new role.) If this is the case, I think it's plausible that the writers make him a dynamic character, the little girl being a strong enough catalyst to remind him of what he once was.
But I still don't think that is the path they are taking with him.

I know Hershel didn't actually grow his leg back. I was being hilarious.
The change in Michonne's character is quite dramatic and, for me at least, difficult to reconcile.
I must've missed the part where they showed Bob baited the walkers.
You're right, I am a bit impatient about the timing and pacing of this season. We had five episodes dealing with the outbreak at the prison with tension building and mysteries to solve and then they leave the audience at the end of episode five with a teaser re-introducing the biggest baddie from last year.
And then they give the audience this. We jump back in time and get to watch the Governor go all soft. I found his relationship with the family in the apartment to move to quickly and unrealistically. I get that they did another jump in time when the Governor cut his beard and stuff, but the pacing seemed off.
And no, the season isn't over, but there are only two episodes left until they take their mid-season hiatus. From what you can gather from the previews and episode descriptions, it looks like another mostly Governor-centric episode next week before the mid-season finale which, I guess, will pick up where the teaser at the end of episode 5 left off.
Obviously others feel differently, but for me the pacing and timing of events just seems off.

Sorry I didn't mean Bob was baiting the walkers. I meant the story line about Bob, and who is baiting the walkers.
Though my theory is that Bob is baiting the walkers, and is an inside man for Martinez's group. Something is up with that Bob, for sure.
