Rune takes the opening set 6-4 and I'm off to bed as Felix is playing like crap. Maybe you can blame it on the travel from Vancouver to Beijing and jet lag, but I need sleep.
So much for regaining confidence over Laver Cup weekend. Rune must be happy about his decision to recover from his devastating injury by skipping Vancouver

I don't know why Felix is such a better player in a team environment as opposed to regular ATP play, but one difference is he is exposed to different people (hint coaching) in team play. This upcoming off-season would be a perfect time to find a new coach.
By the way, Oikos lost 6-4 6-4 to Nicolas Jarry in Beijing. Can we revisit the timeline where Stef and Felix were going to be the two guys battling it out at the top of the game because I like that timeline.
I'm reading that Soon Woo will now have to fulfill two years of military service for failing to win a medal at the Asian Games. That likely explains the outburst above.
The Military Service Law in South Korea obliges all able-bodied male citizens between the ages of 18 and 28 to serve in the military for approximately one and a half to two years, as part of the country's efforts to strengthen protection against North Korea.
However, some prominent sports and cultural figures may be granted an exemption if they are considered capable of promoting national prestige by winning a medal at the Olympics or a gold medal at the Asian Games. The best-known examples include Tottenham footballer Son Heung-min, who was granted an exemption after leading the Korean team to a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, and gold medalist Chung Hyeon at the 2014 Asian Games (doubles) and former world number 19.
Have to win gold at the Asian games and I don't think he was getting there. He was the 4th seed in a very good field. Zhang Zhizhen, the top seed, ended up winning gold.
Hong Seong Chan made the semis in both singles and doubles but lost. Two bronze medals for him but still going to army.
Off-topic: Faker, the eSports star has won gold and is now exempt. He's getting heat for it because it's eSports!

Meanwhile, Charlie is running roughshod over the opposition in Beijing. He took out Musetti the other day 6-2 6-2 and overnight dispatched Casper Ruud 6-4 6-2. He awaits the winner of Dimitrov vs. Sinner (currently in the 3rd set).
The other semi-final is Medvedev vs. Zverev
Edit: Sinner prevails although he was certainly struggling physically. We do get another Alcaraz - Sinner match though.

AO announced they are adding an extra day next year so now it will be 15 days instead of 14. Extra day of rest is exactly what Nadal needs for another AO
Sinner just won the opening set over Charlie in a tie-break. The commentator called it an epic first set, eh not so much in my opinion. Both guys looked uncomfortable out there and it showed in the first set stats.
