The last time I predicted a big Stampeder signing was Jermaine Copeland.
I am going to guess we make a receiver splash this year. What was once a stacked position for us seems to have dropped off a bit but I do have big hopes for Philpot.

DD was on with Francis today and at the very end of a really entertaining conversation about many things but not a lot of specifics about the current team, it was suggested and then confirmed there would be a presser tomorrow about both signings and updates about where the club is with other FA's....so im guessing a big announcement about one or two guys getting inked and then the liklihood that others wont be returning.
With BLM off the books im thinking they will both bring in a big name or two as well as reup one or two of their own
Im hoping Lawler and THurman....but who the hell knows.

I was thinking Lawler as well. Thurman would be great as well. The front 7 would be nasty.

Dave Dickenson availability notes: (from Mark Stephen)
+Stampeders General Manager/Head Coach Dave Dickenson held an availability today, in advance of free agency (February 14, 10:00 AM MT)
+said he has spoken to all 12 remaining free agents and says they know where they stand
+their goal is to sign as many of their players as possible.
+says he has multiple scenarios mapped out for different players and scenarios
+Dickenson noted they are at the point where the side must see a deal in place or he will start to look at other players
+as per previous practice does not anticipate being a big day one of free agency player
+says receiver Richie Sindani will test free agency
+expects Shawn Lemon to receive a big raise, but couldn't say if it would be Calgary giving him the big raise
+says market for linebackers is higher than what he envisioned
+credits AGM Brendan Mahoney for much of the leg work in assessing the market
+looking for another quarterback with CFL experience to come to camp
+relieved a deal was signed with Derek Dennis for 2023
+says defensive back Tre Roberson is making great progress from his surgery last year. Dickenson notes he will be careful with Robersons' workload in training camp.

Bethel-Thompson ‘planning to play’ in 2023, will only sign with Argos if it’s in CFL.

Not sure if the Stamps will ever win another Grey Cup sitting out of free agency every season. It seems like they are rebuilding every season now while teams like the Bombers keep re-signing their top players while adding key players in free agency like Lawler. Seems like they are content being the West Semi-final loser every season.

It would certainly make things easier to understand regarding signing or moving on from certain players if there were just a little bit of cap transparency in the CFL. As it stands, all we can do is speculate unless the GM comes out and states the actual reason why he failed to sign a player.

It seems to me that the Stampeders do spend to the salary cap but don't go over the line like other teams. I have no Idea how the Bombers are cap compliant given the raises Collaros, Lawler, Demski, Jeffcoat, Rose, Jefferson, Bighill have received over the past few seasons. Seems impossible they could keep all those guys when the Stamps can't keep their own top players, especially when most of the Stamps guys wouldn't even warrant the same amount of money of the Bombers all-star players listed. Heck when Bo was making Collaros money the Stamps could barely build a competitive roster. Then there's the Argos. Enough said.

If Thurman and Orimolade are gone (Lemon too), then I would think that should free up enough cash to sign a free agent like Geno Lewis to give Jake Maier a top flight receiver. He would be top of my wish list at any rate.

It seems like the Stamps are the only team that honors the salary cap making these hard decision to move on from players.
Other teams just sign their own guys and go shopping in free agency.
No way Winnipeg can fit that guy under the cap.
When Toronto signs Thurman are we really going to believe the league audits the cap and enforces the rules? What a joke.
