Dal Colle and Ekblad are the only big prospects left in the OHL for this year. Guelph has Fabbari but he's seen as a mid-late 1st rounder. McDavid's team is still going as well. London was eliminated but will play in the Memorial Cup as hosts. Ekblad is down 3-2 in his series.

Dal Colle is currently tied 2nd in playoff scoring with 16 points in 8 games but the guy ahead of him has played one more game and has one more point.

Also Flames fans should be hoping more teams can leap frog the Devils.

The Devils having a larger chance to win the lottery will help reduce the chances the Flames get bumped down.

Are they actually included in the lottery? I assume their percentages are accounted for, but would a win by them stand or be redrawn?

I thought the Devils picked 30th this year due to the Kovalchuk mess?

According to LeBrun they are in the lottery. If they happen to win, they still get the 30th pick and everyone else's picks stay the same.

As a side note, if New Jersey misses the playoffs, it's my understanding that the current plan is for the Devils to remain in the draft lottery in April for purposes of keeping the math right in terms of the odds. So, for example, if the Devils were to win the April draft lottery, their No. 1 overall pick would be taken over by the club that ended up No. 2 overall in the lottery, with every team behind them also moving up a spot as the Devils claim the 30th overall selection.

Yeah they need to remain in the lottery in order to keep all the odds correct.

Then if they win it, they are simply ignored and everyone stays where they were

Can't believe everything went perfect on Friday night for draft position. NYI should get at least 1 point vs BUF you'd think so we actually still have a decent shot at finishing bottom 4.

It would be fricking sweet if we get the #4 pick. Especially if somebody ahead of us takes Draisaitl.

Who are we hoping for with our 2nd rounder (34-35 overall)?

Is that about where the Flames should be looking to snap up a solid goalie prospect like Thatcher Demko? Or would that be a better idea with the Avs 2nd round pick? Or should the Flames target a different goalie in later rounds?

Our luck completely changed last night (in terms of draft position) guaranteed finish at least in the 5th position, with a golden chance at 4th. Couldn't believe it. Decent lottery odds if in 4th, too. A few teams in 4th have won the lottery in the past decade.

Mason MacDonald from Charlottetown would be another one to consider. Played pretty well in the Top Prospects Game and looks good playing in the Q for a weak team. I would suggest we look at D-men in the second round and a goalie in the 3rd.

Why don't we sign FA goalie Steve Summerhays from Notre Dame and leave our early draft picks for positional players? His stats look pretty good and it would save the Flames from drafting a goalie early on. Can't see much downside unless the Flames are running out of contract space.

I think the fact we gave up Berra and brossoit, combined with the fact we have no junior age goalies will lead us to pick one or two goalies. 3rd or later i'd say. Nothing wrong with a surplus of goalies either, as this year proves they can be moved for other assets.

Correct me if i'm wrong, with NYI defeating Sabres tomorrow, we are gauranteed at least the 5th, we will probably have the 4th, and if we win the lottery, we get 3rd?

I'm not sure if i'm looking at this the right/wrong way.

We are guaranteed 5th.
Could get 4th

Only first with a lottery win

No, I am pretty sure we will get the first overall pick if we win the lottery as per the draft lottery rules.

Right now we're 5th before lottery no matter what. If Isles win and we lose or get just a loser point tomorrow we're 4th. If we win lottery, we get 1st.

If we win the lottery we will pick 1st. We're tied with the Isles at 77pts with each team having a single game remaining. If New York picks up more points than us in the final game, then they will sit in the 5th spot and us in 4th. The lowest we can then pick is 5th if a team below us wins the lottery (bumping us), otherwise 4th, barring a stroke of luck.

Drafting fourth to me is exactly in the bubble. It guarantees one of Ekblad, Reinhart, Bennett, Dal Colle
Drafting fifth is just outside of it. Substantial chance the former four are gone and we're stuck having to pick a Ritchie/Fluery/Perlini/Kapanen/Nylander

Please please please fourth place!

Did you forget about Draisaitl too? As long as the Panthers draft ahead of the Oilers he'll likely be taken by them at 3rd. Meaning one of those first four you mentioned could still drop to us at 5th.
