Jankowski and Bennett both suck.

I was going to choose a one game sample and claim victory right now. It was a joke that you didn't get. Hence eye roll.

If this latest discussion is because there’s a log jam at the top three centre positions that’s keeping Jankowski in the AHL, then the obvious question is whether Jankowski is a better centre than Bennett right now. If he is, then he should be here and Bennet drops to the 4th line or a wing. If he isn’t, then the coach and GM must be thinking increased ice time in the AHL is better for Jankowski.

With Bennett, it's not who he is right now, or who he was 2 years ago, it's what he'll be in the coming years. Some of us believe he will be a top-line player, but there is no numerical data to project that. The team did not draft him 4th overall to be on the third line, but due to circumstance, that's where he'll be for the foreseeable future. The team wants him to learn center(still debateable if that's the right position for him), and the other 2 top lines have too much good chemistry for him to displace anyone.

certainly feels like it.
I recall all the bad pick bashing Janko used to get with his defenders saying just wait and see. Last few pages have been par for the course, only now it's Bennett.

agree. and, we are all armchair coaches and gm's in this thread. having said that, Janko looks way better than Bennett to me at this point. My worry is that the decision is being based on the investment and not the production. it is almost like the team is making a last stand with Bennett at this point. if they demote him he basically has one foot out the door and the 4th overall pick will be seen for what it currently appears to be. A bust.
If Bennett were a third round pick or something like that, Janko would already be in the lineup IMO.
I do think the team will eventually have to make the hard decision. If Sam is still a liability (which he currently is at 3rd line centre IMO) after 15 games, moves will be made.
Winning gives them some flexibility here.

Back to Janko-I might get killed for saying it, but I see his ceiling as more of a #2C/3C along the lines of a Sean Coutourier-big, skating center who can put up some offence(40 or 50 pts) when needed, or play a dependable shut-down role. There would be nothing wrong with that.

Well that's not true. Bennett had NHLe of 39 in his 17-year old draft year and 54 in his 18 year old draft+1 year. So already you're talking about a kid who, at 17 and 18 and far from his physical prime was simply elite amongst his peer group.
The NHL? It's true that Bennett's numbers went to **** after December 29th-ish 2016 (a date I selected because that was when Bennett was replaced by Frolik on the second power play) but everything before then, and probably after this early little mini slump to open the 2017 season, points towards a likely top line or at least top six forward, even at center. Read my post below:

This was the last time Bennett played over a minute on the power play for the next 17 games. I therefore chose this date as a cutoff for examining his even strength production, because confidence is a thing.
I also included his 2015-16 season as a reference point. Keep in mind he spent most of that year playing with Frolik and Backlund, who will bump anyone's shot metrics, but I was most interested in shooting percentage and on-ice shooting percentage anyways. Except for Power Play Ice Time, everything being displayed here is a 5-on-5 statistic.
Sam Bennett On-Ice
Sam Bennett Individual
5-on-5 Points/60 just plummeted with his PP icetime taken away, and both the individual shooting percentage and on-ice shooting percentage dropped. He did reign in the penalties though.
Finally, here's Bennett's 5v5 production against some familiar names' seasons over the last three years.

Very interesting post, GuaranteedEV! I hope you didn't take my post to mean I am a detractor of Bennett's, very much the contrary-I always play advocate for his potential to be a star.

I see him more as a Jordan Staal or Ryan Johansson type of player. He will eventually be used against teams best lines for containment but will produce with more PP and PK time.

Get him up here Brad, for #### sakes he's 23. Patients is wearing thin on this. What a shame if the Flames wait half the season to bring him up. When he comes up he probably will show that he should've been up the whole time and everyone will be wondering how many games he could've helped us win earlier in the season. C'mon lets ####ing go

Yeah like there is absolutely no way that the Flames are better off with Stajan or Hamilton or Brouwer over Jankowski.
This should be an easy decision, with the risk of a vet getting picked up off waivers the cherry on top bonus.

Maybe he should feed his patients, malnutrition is a serious thing.

Every 2nd post of yours in the game thread was about Jankowski and of course right after the game you post in this thread. The horse has been beaten enough already, we get it.
Yes it was disappointing he didn't make the team and I understand the anger at the time but let's face it, Jankowski isn't playing in the NHL until there is an injury or trade. Let's have a little more "patients".
