Do yourself a favour and see it in the theatre. As someone who knows nothing about Dune, the movie was fantastic. I'll be going to see it again on the big screen.
Maybe people who are invested in Dune from the books won't like it as much or something, but I thought it was legitimately awesome.

Did you read the books at all? Or did you go in with zero background
I love Villeneuve and love Dune...so I will definitely watching on IMAX next week, and neither of the people I am going with have any knowledge of Dune, though they are fans of GoT

Can we please let more auteur filmmakers get their hands on big IPs?

No I didn't. I am aware of Dune as an aspect of pop culture and that's it. I've never read the books or seen the first movie.

Lol. Oh yeah, churning them out like clockwork once every 4 decades.
With any luck we’ll get another one when I’m in a nursing home.

I don't want to get anyone too hyped up about it. All I'm saying is that it's probably the greatest movie ever made.

That's good to know; my friends whom I am going with, are similarly unfamiliar the story...
I am hoping that regular moviegoers, without knowledge of the book, film or mini series, find this accessible enough to actually go see it, watch on HBO max or whatever, so that at least a Part 2 gets made to finish off the first book.
Sounds like it isn't too dense or convoluted for the regular movie goer...

Dune was out "online" since Saturday. Warner Bros really effed this up. They should have it available for streaming at least a week or two before the theatrical release.

The Guardian review was 5 stars out of 5, I think I will organise a trip to the Imax for a few friends to see it

staggering the release dates for different countries is the problem...gives time for pirates to find an audience...
I am hoping that Dune is the kind of scope and scale that people will go to theatres for...
just booked my Imax tickets and am really looking forward to seeing this in Imax rather than on my TV, as this is the first movie I've seen in a theatre in probably 3-4 years.

Meh. Not afraid to admit I’ve never heard of it. But the trailer didn’t evoke any excitement at all.
