The patch for consoles should be coming out after American Thanksgiving. It was already submitted to SONY/Microsoft recently. Not sure about the PC version as it doesn't need to go though all of this red tape to get released. There's still no word on what's fixed though from Tweets it seems that the performance issues on the PS3 and XBox have been addressed.

Manufacturer Diamond's been around a looong time but aren't a big player anymore, but Asus is huge currently so I'd probably pick Asus from a simple "who's going to be around to fulfill my warranty claim in a year" point of view.

As far as I can tell the fan setup isn't the same for both cards though, the Diamond looks like a standard hair dryer cooler:

While the Asus cooler is definitely not standard.

I've got the nvidia 570 GTX card from Asus with that cooler, and I can say you'll be MUCH happier with it if noise is at all a concern. That stock cooler on the Diamond card is going to HOWL, whereas the one on the Asus is nearly silent.

Keep in mind though that the Asus card takes up 3 (!!!) slots, so make sure you have the space.

I recently bought this card: http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX35347

XFX Radeon HD 6950 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E

XFX is nice because they offer lifetime warranty if you register the card on their website within 30 days of purchase.

It's been working really well for me so far. Runs Skyrim on all Ultra settings.

That XFX one looks like it has a decent heatsink and fan and could be quiet, but I bought an evga one that looked similar thinking it would be quiet and it was very loud.

Reviews seem to vary as well, some reviews call a card "quiet" that I would never tolerate.

So best is to just try one and make sure you can exchange it.

I'm pretty picky about noise and I find the Asus cooler in the one you linked quite quiet. Not silent, but quiet.

Diamond is not the Diamond Multimedia of 10 years ago. That company is totally gone. Now it's just a brand name passed around the village like the bicycle. Right now, it belongs to Best Data, famous for all those crappy mice and keyboards at London Drugs.

Diamond is quite possibly the worst brand you could buy if purchasing a videocard. They simply do not honor warranties.

That said, while ASUS is a huge company, I have also heard horror stories about their warranty support (I see a couple every month on tech forums) but you will hear these about most companies. I have only ever dealt with XFX for videocard support. I sent in an 8800GT and they sent me back an 8800 GTX that was defective. I had to send that back as well, all on my own dime. Eventually they sent me a 9800 GTX which was fine.

Regarding the fan, the Diamond card has the stock fan which is a centrifugal blower. It will be noisy but the advantage of the design is that it blows all the hot air out the back of your case. All the other designs with axial fans will blow the hot air right back inside your case to be recycled.

Good to know about Diamond, didn't know that it was a completely different company.

Good point about the blower style, if your case doesn't exhaust hot air very effectively that could be a problem.

I haven't seen the benchmarks for those cards but I'd bet my bottom dollar the asus performs better. Asus is definitely the better company right now, and their design is improved over stock unlike how the Diamond looks I have an asus direct CU 6870 right now and it's been great. Very quiet unless I really put a strain on it, but that will be the case with anything.

Google reviews for benchmarks if you need more proof. http://tomshardware.com is an amazing resource and sites like overclock.net too.

Oh and never buy any computer products from futureshop unless it's a basic accessory. You will be overcharged for inferior, old, items. Either go memory express or order from an online dealer.

Sorry didn't want to spoil that surprise for you lol. Those mages really are deadly, you definitely need magic protection through gear, perks, or potions, or a billion health potions.

Ebony ingots are really easy to find once past level 25 or so, weapon/armour vendors will straight up sell the ore or ingots. Travel between vendors or wait in-game to get more. Haven't found a mine in game that produces them but there probably is one.

Hearts are still hard. Doing the Daedric quests you are more likely to find them, haven't done them all yet. I remember stealing one from Acadia's Potions in Whiterun and from Kodlak's waiting room in the Companion's guild too. Once you're over level 30 you can get lucky when potion vendors (they sell ingredients too) occasionally stock them. Otherwise keep your eyes peeled for more thieving opportunities!

They both have the same cores and memory. There is absolutely no reason for better performance unless the ASUS card has higher stock clocks in it's bios. Furthermore, the Diamond card looks like a reference card manufactured by Flextronics and just rebranded with a Diamond sticker. Reference cards are usually the better performers and higher overclockers with voltage control and even have the potential to be unlocked to 6790s. The 6950 reference cards even have a dual bios switch. The ASUS lacks all these. ASUS cards tend to use their own cheaper power regulation system to save cost on more expensive VRM modules and VRM cooling as well which reference cards usually have. The reality is that most non-reference cards are manufactured once reference stocks are depleted so that the 3rd party manufacturers can skimp and cut costs by building cut down, cheaper models. That goes for everything from PCB components to cooling system. The loud blower style assembly with the full metal casing with backplate is actually more expensive to manufacture than just sticking on a regular heatsink and two axial fans to blow down on it.

The reason the ASUS model costs more is that is an Eyefinity 6 edition card that supports 6 monitors but that comes with the price of 4 displayports and no HDMIs. If you want to use those displayports and don't have a displayport supported monitor (the majority still do not), you will have to shell out $30-$50 per port for an active displayport adapter. That said, I would still avoid Diamond as their warranty service is non-existent under Best Data. I would not personally buy either of those. The Diamond I would avoid for obvious reasons and the ASUS because it takes up 3 slots and has unnecessary features that you are paying for.

Futureshop items are not inferior or old, just they may not have the most current stocks or up to date pricing but in the end, it's basically the same thing. I purchase many things from FS such as monitors that I have never bought from MemEx simply because MemEx doesn't always have the best pricing and MemEx has a different (and sometimes inferior) brand selection and you almost always have to price match them.

I found an ebony mine a while back, some place where the village was complaining that frost spiders had taken over the mine.

In the case of my 570 GTX the Asus card actually has better power than the reference design (8 phase, uses 1 8 pin and 1 six pin vs 6 phase and 2 six pin), and it does allow some voltage control (though not a huge amount, some people are modding the BIOS to allow for more room and a dual bios switch would certainly be desirable there).
