Appreciate the replies, but can you say (preferably without spoilers) which get mentions and which affect your ability to get optimal results from quests?

the DLC was made post-gold. Once they passed cert, game went off to get printed and the dev team switched gears to working on DLC.

Call me nostalgic, but I remember the days when devs would add stuff post-release and it would be free.

i agree, but that mission to rescue a live Prothean (not a spoiler, it's in the DLC description) is badass. it's far better than the Kasumi or Zaheed packs were from ME2

Yeah they can't expire a main story mission, so I'm basically going to do all available side missions that I can find before every main story mission, hopefully that'll be good enough.

What'd it all cost? My initial look at it was something like 14.99 for Cerberus network, plus 5.99 for Arrival, plus 5.99 for Lair of the Shadow Broker. Effectively, over 30 bucks plus tax for 2 missions. That's kind of asking a lot. I'm thinking I might beat ME3 with my Renegade shep then start from scratch with a paragon in a while, and by then the DLC's may be cheaper.

That's exactly what I've been doing and so far it looks like I haven't missed any. I am unsure how I feel about the game so far. 15 or so hours in (thanks to being home sick ) and I like the combat. Seems smoother and my adept actually feels powerful again. I can drop those singularity/warp explosions all day lol. However, in regards to squadmates:

I'm only about five or 6 hours in. I didn't get to play yesterday. I'm rather torn as to restart or not knowing what I know now about the side missions.

After messing around yesterday I found something that people might be interested in. Anything you scan in a system remains there until you go and check it out. So basically hit every system you can and fly around pinging everything. Just avoid the reapers and continue to ping. After you've scanned all the systems go do a mission and all the areas will go back to being reaper free and you can just fly around and collect everything you've uncovered.

I would say maybe skip the Cerberus network and just get Arrival and Lair of the Shadow Broker, maybe Overlord as well.

You can even do this with just one system, fly around pinging, mark everything, let them catch you, resume, you're back in the system with everything marked.

Really? Interesting. Can't say I enjoy that part of the game.

I find the pinging an entire system more annoying then scanning individual planets in ME 2. I would only probe Good to Rich with the occasional Moderate if I was bored. So far the pinging is rather meh.

I am fairly positive that in order to get DLC for ME2 you have to buy the Cerberus network unless you got the game new.

Nope. I borrowed my brother's copy of Mass Effect 2, and I have the option to purchase Arrival or Lair of the Shadow Broker or Overlord without the Cerberus Network.
Basically the laptop for Cerberus Network isn't open, but there is a menu item that says "New Items Available for Purchase" or something below the menu options that lets me select the individual DLC not associated with Cerberus Network.
Just think of Cerberus Network as a bundle of different DLC stuff in one $15 purchase.

Game ends, you click resume, and you start back in the same system.. so almost no downside that I can see.
I don't know what would happen if you entered a system, did a mission, then got caught, I suspect though that the mission would still be completed.
