Is there something about Macklemore & Ryan Lewis that I'm missing? I've admittedly only heard two songs, but they were both terrible, IMO.
This. I’ve had numerous people come up to me with a rager for these guys “Best Album in 10 years! You have to listen to them!”. Even with me getting more and more into hip-hop lately these guys are embarrassingly bad. I don’t see the appeal at all.
Macklemore is great. Dude has been working his ass off for years in the Seattle scene and become the second person to get a number one tune as a truly independant artist. Pretty impressive.
Is he revolutionizing hip-hop? Of course not. But the dude makes some fun songs and also isn't afraid to sing about things that matter. "Same Love", as Troutman mentioned, is an incredibly powerful song. Also check out his song about his addiction to codeine:

Couldn't disagree more. Listened to a half dozen songs this afternoon, thought all of them were pretty good. Could see it not being some people's flavor, but certainly not "embarrassingly bad".
Lolla tickets go on sale next Tuesday for $200, with very limited $75 tickets popping up randomly this week. With the lineups they roll out and the general organization of the festival that price point is incredible.
Saw a tweet about that Prince show, I believe it was:
"Picture the longest line you have ever seen, then add 6,000 people to it. That's how many people are trying to get into Prince right now".
SXSW sounds pretty awful to me. Seems like one giant line and then realizing that I am not nearly cool enough to see the bands that are actually worth going down to Austin to see.

I'm not sure, but you may have just said "He's great, just like Soulja Boy"

Soulja Boy is signed to a label....
The first and only other independant artist to get a number one song was the lovely Lisa Loeb.
From Wikipedia:
"It is also the second independent song in history to achieve the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, nearly 20 years after Lisa Loeb's "Stay (I Missed You)" in 1994.[1]"

"Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend and the Killers will be among the headliners for Lollapalooza in Grant Park on Aug. 2-4.
Also confirmed by multiple industry sources are the National and the Postal Service (a reunion of Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello on the 10-year anniversary of their million-selling debut, “Give Up”)."
3 Day passes for Lolla went on sale this morning and sold out this afternoon. I didn't expect that, but luckily bought tickets for the group early enough.
