I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

I remember it, but I sure don't miss it.

Getting gouged on "off sales" on Sundays was no good. You could even buy draft beer (probably at Peepers North) in big 4 litre milk jugs. Now that's low-rent drinkin'!

Scrambled porn was the first porn for many of us I'm sure. Sometimes Superchannel would run programming from the Playboy Channel late at night. The younger generation of today just don't know the joys of seeing two wildly obscured green and purple women have fake sex.

Chestermere Lake when it was just two sleepy rows of summer cabins on either side of the lake. I caught my first fish there under the bridge, a slimy old jack of course.

Circle 8 speedway...I don't even remember where it was exactly, somewhere in the NW, about where Beddington is now?

Just thought of something else...when SuperStore first came to Calgary, I remember almost all of the cashiers and people on the floor were wearing rollerskates/rollerblades. I'm sure some safety regulations were being broken with that.

Norm Edwards thank you! A friend and me were trying to remember his name a few days back and it's been bugging me every since.

The most shocking (depressing?) discovery as I waded through this thread for the last hour is how many of the things posters are nostalgic for actually REPLACED the things that I find nostalgic!!

And to answer a poster 15 pages ago, Safeway at Market Mall used to be the "Woodwards Food Floor".

That land was farmed for years and years...I would love to know what sits on that land now?

The one in the NW with the farmhouse was beside that church that is beside St. Francis ... My buddy used to live right beside it and we'd wack golf balls trying to hit the house then hop on our Kuwahara's and drop a couple quarters at the arcade at the corner of Northmount and 14th saving just enough to buy a family box of fries from CB Burgers... Good times! Only thing left is CB's

You could get a 4L "Milk Jug" of draft from the Highlander for $10... Man it was gross but a good score for a couple 16 year olds!

I remember seeing his brother Paul Janz open up for Cutting Crew at the Jack Singer. Anyone else miss how the girls (including my sister) used to be able to jump on the stage and grab the singers before the bouncers would gently escort them back to the main seating area. BTW : Died in your arms = best grade 7 slow dance song ever

I think they're cousins, not brothers.

Everything has been mentioned...but as a lifer from the NW:

-wizards castle in market mall...add in when they had theaters that were awesome as well (mall was half the size and twice as great)
-when varsity actually had a field with horses rather then lifeless small houses
-when I could walk to Northland at a normal 4 way. This was when Brentwood was the end of the line. I hate all the flyovers now between Brentwood and rocky

Pretty sure Paul is Darrel's nephew, actually. Was going to comment about that in my earlier post, but figured no one else here would know what I was talking about! Guess I was wrong.
