Ok team looks like I struck out trying. I changed my DNs on my Apple TV to my IP address. (I googled what my IP address is and uses the result) I installed plex and it is working fine on my ps3. I downloaded plex connect and python and ran the script but when I go back to my Apple TV I see nothing

I only skimmed the instructions, but you should be using your internal ip address.

You are right I needed my internal IP address. Also needed to allow python through the firewall. Those were the two large issues. I am so bad at this stuff. Thanks silentsim for helping me out and being a pal! My wife will be thrilled that play station noise is gone from the bedroom!

This Apple TV is awesome. I went out and bought another. It streams media better than my old ps3 and the plex interface is great. I highly recommend it to anyone

Apologies if this has been answered before: does Plex work for Netflix streaming in Canada yet? When I last tried it a year or so ago, it would only work with US Netflix.

From their website it says Netflix channel does work but it is glitchy and the regular apple one is your best bet right now. I'm sure they will fix it in the future but since you can still use it regardless it will be one of their last bits to work on

You should have Firecore logo now on the ATV, it's called settings. Click on that and install maintenance (at least that's how it was when I jailbroke a year ago). Once maintenance is installed you will have another icon for maintenance. Click on that and it will then allow you to install Plex or Xbmc, Nito TV etc.

Apparently the latest update for the AppleTV has broken PlexConnect. If you are in this situation, the latest fix for this update can be found here:

It actually requires you to use the Apple Configurator program. I know this program is available for the Mac but I do not know if this is available for Windows though.

Well that was easy. Took all of 10 minutes to do. CKP, thanks for the link. I used the Apple Configurator on the Mac to install the files on the Apple TV. The plex server and plexconnect are running on my PC though. Had to email the trailers.pem file to myself. It worked on the first try.

I didn't have time to try but unfortunately my macbook doesn't work anymore so it may be a battle. I did however download the plex ios apps and I love using the tablet to choose my movies and just airplaying to the ATV. Worst case scenario airplay still makes these hockey pucks useful.

BUMP: (This seemed like the most relevant thread.)
I've had an Apple TV 2 for quite a few years.
Tried jailbreaking a few years ago and then again this week and realized the reason I can't get it into DFU mode is because the play button on my remote doesn't work. Does anyone know if there's a way around this?

A friend of mine just sent me a message on FB, he's what I call computer challenged, he was asking on kiji for help to jailbreak and was about to let some guy in Toronto remotely access his computer to setup his apple tv. I told him to forget that idea!
What do you guys recommend, I know nothing about apple tv and even more so jailbreaking. Could anyone here help this guy out, he would pay for the help, just don't want him to use some shady kiji people.
