I saw Avatar tonight. It is a feast for the eyes, but the notion of guys on flying animals with bows and arrows taking down fully equipped modern soldiers and even helicopters made me roll my eyes.
Aside from that minor gripe, it's quite cool and really worth seeing.
****SPOILERS BELOW IN WHITE*****
Not that I necessarily disagree with your sentiment about it being unrealistic that the Na'vi won the battle but I would point out that really it was Jake with the grenades that made the difference... and the Na'vi suffered very heavy losses. They won but not by a lot. Far fetched but not completely beyond reason.

It was like Vietnam all over again!

Actually depending on the video game, I've had fun watching someone play it. And vice versa. Hell my one roommate played Drake's Fortune a few months ago and third roommate watched most of it and was bummed out when second roommate finished it without him.

Most definitely not! Ebert gave it four out of four stars!
and Ebert is one of the very few critics whose opinion i actually pay attention to. apart from a few exceptions, his reviews almost always mirror my thoughts on a particular movie

I should have explained. I know ebert liked it (see my previous post in this thread where he said James Cameron has been re-elected king of the world).
My point was that Ebert said that about some other POS movie.
He said this about Terminator Salvation

Anyway, most of the running time is occupied by action sequences, chase sequences, motorcycle sequences, plow-truck sequences, helicopter sequences, fighter-plane sequences, towering android sequences and fistfights. It gives you all the pleasure of a video game without the bother of having to play it.
Damn, now I have to go watch the original trilogy of Star Wars again.
Did you miss the several marathons hosted around Christmas? Spike, Space, some other channel, all had day long marathons for Star Wars because nothing says Christmas like Star Wars...except Star Wars Christmas special
As for Avatar, I never got into the hype, didn't even realize it was released until maybe a day after as people started to tell me how good it was. I watched it, yeah it was good maybe not deserving of all the praise it's getting but the visuals were amazing and made it worth the price of admission, well in comparission to other movies. I went with a couple people who would normally hate the Scifi type movies like this but they quite enjoyed it.
