You signed an agreement to allow us uninterrupted access to and from our reservations, now you are trying to go back on your word and revise the agreement. That is why I think you whiteys are all shady people. If you had some honour, like the honour of my forefathers, we wouldn't have these problems.

Don't you think it's fair for you to be able to decide and when/how to sell your land and to who? Not to mention the City offered you a sweet, sweet deal.

Keep blaming everyone else for your problems. You will never overcome them that way. If you actually wanted to reform the system you would do so. But so long as you choose to accept the status quo, then you only enable your leaders. This isn't about whitey, this is about you, and your failure to stand up for yourself, your family and your future.
Like V, I know plenty of status indians. All good, honest people. All hard workers. My best friend's mother-in-law actually suffered through a residential school back in the day. You know what they all have in common though? None of them live on the reserves. All of them took personal responsibility for themselves, and chose to make something of their lives, and to create a better future for themselves and their kids.
Winners work hard and earn the respect of their peers. Losers sit in their ivory towers, blaming Whitey for all of their self-inflicted problems.
I have no sympathy for you whatsoever.

You do. Just not at the interchange for a few months. It's not our fault you built the casino there. When you knew exactly what the city had planned for that area of town. You are worried that us "whiteys" will not be able to come into your casino at will, there by reducing your the amount of money coming from your cash cow.
Well, if you had taken the deal, then you would have had uninteruped at 37th street from now until forever. You shot it down. Deal with it until the interchange is done. Have fun sitting in traffic. I think you said that.

its this kind of attitude of "you would never vote for me" that is why we have never had a first nations person on city council. you don't know until someone tries. look at Barack Obama in the states, for many years black people likely said, "why should I try, white america will never vote for a black president" and look what happened. its a defeatist attitude

Yup, that's the real way to progress, levy the blame elsewhere for your leadership's corruption. This serves as an excuse to not do anything about the systemic problems inherent in the treaty land system. The reserve system is broken, and only serves as a two tiered racial system in this country.
In the end you are doing nothing to improve things, its still all just the "white man's fault"; what the European ancestors did was atrocious sure, but that was the past. It's similar to what a Zimbabwean colleague of mine has said regarding the colonial past of Africa:
He said that many African's continue to blame past colonialism for all the problems which leads them to take no action to fix the problems that are happening now, and being caused by their own people now. He finished by saying what's happened in the past cannot be undone and is useless to dwell on as it does nothing to improve the current situation; real change requires real action and commitment in the present.
