But if that's case he will simply force his way to get more ice time.
I just think any sort of comparable to Makar, is a reach.

It might be a reach to say Parekh will reach the levels Makar has in the NHL, but it's not remotely a reach to say Parekh has accomplished more as a prospect than Makar did. Memorial Cup, CHL defenceman of the year, first OHL D to score 30+ in b2b years since Bobby Orr. Makar is a better skater but Parekh should get every opportunity to prove he can be just as valuable offensively.

I mean Makar never played in that league so I'm not sure how you say that with such certainty.
Ultimately though we agree that he should and will receive every opportunity to excel, particularly offensively.
PP + sheltered ES time to start.
And then you ramp him up accordingly.

How are we going to give Parekh PP time if we are also trying to boost and showcase Rasmus for a trade? And where is Weegar going to get the PP minutes he likely deserves?
I don't think it's intense speculation at all to look at our roster situation and assume the 19 year old will have a hard time seeing sustained PP opportunities.
That, or we will not be getting good value out of a rasmus trade.

Parekh/Weeger get the PP time, it's that simple.
No one is giving Rasmus PP time to boost his value. That's not where his value lies anyway.

"Showcasing" a player is probably a myth anyway. The coach sets lineups and gives minutes during the game, not the GM. And every team knows every player or at least has video. You are right - Rasmus has a track record. His play is well known.

Yeah i don't think teams would primarily being acquiring Rasmus to be on their PP, at least the top unit. He's adequate at best at that, and it will be contending teams that are looking to acquire him - who for the most part will already have better options.
If Zayne is more effective on the PP than Rasmus, he will get more PP time than Rasmus.
I suspect it will play out similar to how Montreal handled Lane. They had him on the 2nd unit, to start, much to the chagrin of Habs fans. And then they moved him onto the top PP as it became clear he was the best option for that.

Rasmus had ~30% of his points on the PP last season. I think y'all are wild to both believe that he won't get PP time, and that his point production doesnt weigh heavily into his acquisition cost. He's a 2 way dman, he's not a 6'3+ heavy shut down guy, and he's also not an offensive wiz, but he needs some of that offense to justify his top 4 play.
I hope you're all right about Zayne but IMO that is historically not what our club does. I have no reason to believe they will do that this year.

You keep going back to this point, but Parekh is 19. He doesn't need and probably shouldn't get 25 minutes with 4+ minutes of power play time a night. There's room for three quality defenders with offensive instincts on this team (Weegar, Andersson and Parekh).
I don't think this point should be directed at Parekh, as he'll get whatever time he deserves.
It's guys like Poirier and Brzustewicz, or another d-prospect, that will lose out because of keeping Andersson. They've got a number of defenders knocking at the door that would benefit by getting Andersson's minutes. But it's also nice to see if they'll win a job in training camp too against the veterans.
One of the more controversial decisions for the Flames might be what to do with Brzu/Poirier if they outplay Parekh in training camp and preseason? They've likely got to keep Parekh up, as long as he looks solid enough, but then how do they manage those guys with Andersson still in the fold?

Bruz and Poirier seem like they have different skill sets than Parekh. I have no doubt that both are better defensively than Parekh is right now. Parekh's first goal should be to fix the Flames' PP. Parekh needs to be developed as a primarily offensive d-man. While Bruz and Poirier need to be developed, with the goal of becoming more well rounded top 4 guys.
I'll be quite upset if the Flames do their Flames things with Parekh and don't give him proper offensive development. He obviously needs to work on his defence, but that can't be the only focus with him.
In other words, Parekh shouldn't be competing with Bruz and Poirier for a role. He should be on a different track.

Play 2d on the first powerplay. Parekh is more of a roamer anyway. Not like it's required to have a single d-man on each powerplay unit

The only way Parekh gets 0 PP minutes is if he doesn't make the squad. At a minimum, he's on PP2 in his first 9 games as part of the evaluation of his readiness to play in the NHL this season.

Other than Weegar, which other d-man on the Flames last year were you giving more PP minutes than Andersson? There was no other option. This year, there will be if Parekh makes the team.

This isn’t Sutter or his predecessors post-Hartley.

After many years of hurt, I'm apprehensive. This is a prospect the Flames cannot afford to F-up. But yes, I see the new regime as doing a much better job so far.

That's just the random idiot in an Oilers jersey that always shows up at things that have nothing to do with them.

Well no one said he's going to get no PP time. Maybe Rasmus is on the 2nd PP unit, splitting time with Weegar. The reality is that Andersson, Zayne, and Weegar will all likely see some PP time. But neither Weegar or Andersson are so good at QB'ing a PP that we should be worried at them blocking Zayne. If Zayne is better at it than them, he will get more time.
As for the last comments, I don't understand them. What do you think the historic approach has been. The Flames are no different than other teams. They grant their younger player chances, and when they do well, they get more chances. And that happens organically and over time.
Maybe not at the pace fans want. But that's a different thing.

Let's do as Monahammer suggests and look at the Flames' history when it comes to utilizing rookie defenders, shall we?
Phaneuf: over 5 minutes of PP time per game
Giordano: 2:42 / game
Brodie: 1:44 / game
Andersson: 1:00 / game
Yes, it is clearly as Monahammer says. The Flames never give rookie defenders time on the powerplay.
