I can't really blame him tbqh. Imagine being on a team where creativity and offense was the name of the game and then you land somewhere where your first coach was a defensive first grumpy old man and then the next guy is like the nice guy version of the guy who just left except much worse when it comes to the ability to coach the game. The guy went from an offensive minded coach in Quenneville to the current guy that makes Jacques Lemaire look like an offensively creative genius.

I just don't understand what anyone expects from him with this team. He's a playmaker/passer with no one with any offensive ability to pass to, and a system designed to play defensively.

He was good last year.
And he was good this year, when he first came back. But the last 10-15 games or so, he hasn't been as effective, and I'm not sure the effort level has ben where it needs to be.

He's gone from one of my favorite players in the league to one of my most hated. Nobody did that to him. He did that to himself. He got his big contract and has been mostly mailing it in ever since. He's not under any pressure in Calgary because his peers aren't there to keep him accountable. He has no passion to win anymore and it's horrible to see.
Tonight, he was in the crease with the goalie and was yukking it up with him, down 4-1. I don't know if he cares if the team wins or loses anymore. It's ####ty. I defended him for the longest time. No more. He's on his own.
Get ####ed Jonathan.

If this were true, I'd expect to see his great playmaking ability on the pp. He has shown no creativity whatsoever. No ability to enter the zone on the pp. He looks slow, and, quite frankly, untalented.

They don’t give him the puck. They put Frost on entry, he hands it to Kadri, and then Kadri and Andersson pass to each other. I’ve seen whole power plays where they simply ignore the left side.

Does he ever look before passing? So many blind passes all the time directly to the other team. Most players would be benched for so many giveaways. Every shift shaking his head in disgust after giving the puck away.

You're not wrong. That missed one timer from kadri tonight was awful.
Id still like him to show a heck of a lot more.

I expect more then 40-60 points that's forsure.
It's not like he's played with nobodies. Kadri, lindholm, toffoli, coronato are all legit top 6 players.
There's no excuse he has less points then backlund in multi seasons.

I missed the game tonight and after reading the synopsis, I doubt I'll get around to watching it. Was Huberdeau worse than usual or something?
I'm also not buying that his decline is systems or coaching related. A few notable players had their best years under Sutter, and he didn't have any problem with guys like Gaudreau or Tkachuk bringing their own creativity to the ice. In his first go around, he acquired Huselius and Tanguay who were creative guys. With Huska, I think it is a self-fulfilling thing. The team plays the way it does because most of the guys, including Huberdeau, just are not bringing effective creativity to the offense, so he leans on structure and defensive play. If Huberdeau was nailing his attempts to create scoring chances, I don't think Huska is going to try and stop him. He has just shown that he isn't that guy anymore.
I think the answer is simple and it's a tale as old as time. He got his retirement contract, combined with being traded away from where his heart was, and just doesn't have the drive. Some players just want to win and thrive with the spotlight on them, and some just want the year round flip flops and Ferraris. I don't think it's a malicious or even a conscious thing. Some players just can't fake it if their heart isn't in it no matter how much they want to.

Rough season for sure. On pace for about 42 pts, which would be the lowest since his 1st full season in the NHL.

He's quit.
He has been measured, weighed and found wanting.

And no D serving as F4
The guy had 4 seasons at 1.2 ppg then landed here and dialed in about half that rate

There is nothing to discuss anymore when you are in a slump for 4 yrs
Huberdeau is comfortable contributing nothing and happy the blame is mostly not on him.

He has less points than Backlund and Colemen, neither of whom have any PP points.
Whatever his problem, he's now well behind non-offensive type players in offensive production.

I usually stick up for Huberdeau but that was a horrible performance in front of his home town fans. Will say that he is the type of player who relies on using his linemates to generate offence and they've all been bad lately too.

Flames fans are so weird. You can't wish for a tank and then rant about players not playing their best. It's a good thing he's not playing as well as last season. If he played better, the team would possibly win a few more games which is exactly what this organization doesn't need. With all the parity in the NHL, to be the worst, you have to have players underperforming. His salary at the moment doesn't matter at all because it puts the Flames above the floor. He's doing exactly what the team needs this season so instead of hating on him, you should be happy that he's doing the best thing for this organization and that's help this team get to a bottom 3 finish.
