I guess the idiot coach line should have went to McVey. lol
Yeah 5 playoff appearances in 7 seasons. Which includes two Super Bowl appearances and one win. What a complete idiot. Maybe he should have started Nathan Rourke instead

49'ers opened -9.5 and it's already up to 10 for next week. Total at 50. Shanahan has really had LaFleurs number in the playoffs, so I think this number is going up.

So as I had a beer league game tonight (in a very cold arena) I taped the second half of the Lions game on NBC which of course was simsubbed or whatever they call it on CTV. Fine.
But then at the end of the game, instead of the post game on NBC we have to watch 15 minutes or so of the Big Bang Theory on CTV before some goof at CTV realized the game is over and that they need to hit the switch and drop their simsub and allow NBC programming to resume.
This happens all the time it seems and really is unacceptable.

I actually wanted the Lions to win, but calling McVay an "idiot" is out there. If Stafford doesn't get banged up the Rams could have won the game. Sometimes that's how it goes... This wasn't a Packers/Cowboys situation. I don't see how you can blame McVay for the loss.
Maybe not the best clock management at the end but McVay did to a very good job this season with the Rams as they weren't picked by many if anyone to make the playoffs at the beginning of the season given their roster overhaul. There's no such thing as the perfect coach that doesn't make the occasional mistake.
Putting the entire loss on McVay might be a little harsh, but he mismanaged the clock to the point it left them with virtually no chance once they gave the ball back to Detroit with four minutes left. Calling timeouts to avoid a five yard delay penalty, especially in the second half of an obviously close game, is pretty much unforgivable. Take the penalty, the timeout matters way more. But once he botched it and they had three choices with four minutes left to either kick a 62 yard FG, go for 4th and 14, or punt, he chooses the worst option. It's not new for him either, McVay has a bad propensity for clock management errors.

Most coaches have issues managing the clock. Teams should employ a clock management team that handles the end of half timeouts while the coach focuses on getting players ready for the next play. I consider clock management pretty minor when discussing the best coaches as to me, preparation, locker room buy-in, and execution on the field is what separates the best coaches from the rest. Lots of coaches are only good at one or two of those and it's why there's a constant coaching carousel.

I will say that the Packers really did look good yesterday. They were so much better prepared than Dallas that it was laughable. It's a young team, but looks to be very receptive to coaching, and they look a lot better now than they did 9 weeks ago. One thing about these guys from the Shanahan tree is that they can coach up their players, prepare them, and come up with solid game plans.
But their in game management and adjustments does tend to be where they falter a bit. Still most of coaching is the Tuesday to Saturday of the week.

Is it Mcvay calling the timeout to avoid the delay of game or Stafford? In any case, I am surprised teams don’t have a dedicated clock management person. Or maybe some do and they are in the booth. There is a lot going on, especially for a coach calling plays too.
This didn’t cost them the game though IMO. Even with the lack of timeouts, Lions needed two first downs.

The cowboys are the mapple leafs. No matter how good their team is, how much momentum they carry, they will choke and get battered.

The hype for those teams in those markets is just so over the top that it's hard for the players to not get caught up in it and start believing their press clippings. Not to take anything away from the Packers but you got the feeling the Cowboys felt like they could just show up on home turf and things would just take care of itself. It was basically the football version of Mike Tyson vs Buster Douglas. I was having such a good time in the first half of the game marvelling at the meltdown that I didn't even care that the Cowboys losing tanked a few of my Sports Select tickets. Totally worth not winning the money to see Jerry cursing in his suite.
