It's "worst" (pet internet peeve). And I'd take Huberdeau over Nurse.

You aren’t getting positive value in trading the largest negative value contract in the NHL.
Spin it any way you want, it ain’t happening. Even if it’s only the second largest negative value contract.

Meh - I'm not spinning anything. My expectation is that the Flames have Huberdeau in the lineup for the foreseaable future, and I'm OK with that. If they are rebuilding they don't need to get rid of the contract right away.

I can see Van fans balking at Tanev for a 1st but they get out of Garland’s contract which opens up cap space this summer to improve the team and give Pettersson and Hronek big contracts while solidifying their blueline with a former fan favorite.
Calgary sacrifices one of their big rental trade chips to offload Huby’s deal. They take back the very bad Gudbransen contract but he fills a need on the team that will be lost with the Zadorov trade. Columbus has been looking to trade a D and Gudbransen is likely their worst contract. Johnny comes back to Calgary and fans would welcome him back with open arms and be relieved to get out from Huberdeau’s deal.
Columbus turns 2 poor free agent decisions a year ago into 2 other teams regrettable blockbuster trade acquisitions. They get a 1st out of the deal and get 2 players who fit their mix a little better. They were rumored to be in on Garland and perhaps Huberdeau is the guy to mesh with Laine? They take a big risk with the Huby deal but offload 2 poor contracts and get a 1st
|
I like this trade, Flames maybe have to retain cash on Garland which is better than Huberdeau. Gudbranson brings toughness and isn’t that far off from Zadarov. Gaudreau and Lindy can maybe find some magic to raise Lindys trade value.

Two cities of C's that hate their Johnny's.
It makes too much sense (for everyone except Huberdeau & Columbus lol)

It's funny a day after Huberdeau has one of the saddest breakaway attempts, Johnny sounds like he one ups him.

Both Jons suck right now just swap them and Calgary retains 750k so Columbus pays the same.
How much worse could it be for either team?
Gaudreau: 15GP - 1G 5A (Only goal was an empty net)
Huberdeau: 14GP - 2G 5A

Nurse is cheaper, younger, has less term, and at least has some toughness to his game. If he's worse than Huberdeau it isn't by much. 43pts last year compared to 55.
Trading Tkachuk in his prime for Huberdeau might turn out to be one of the worst trades in NHL history though.

Nurse is an idiot. That trumps everything.
Who cares about the Tkachuk trade? It happened. This is about trades in the future.

Nurse directly costs you hockey games, Huberdeau does not. I keep Huby all day long over Nurse.

Nurse is $1.25 MM cheaper per year and one year less of term.
If the club is truly going with a youth movement, you want the bad contract with less term 100 times out of 100.

I believe if Gaudreau comes back the change of scenery won’t be as positive and he becomes the next scape goat who plays soft and didn’t want to be here.
Signed a big guaranteed contract for his and his families lifetime retirement. Isn’t having the same results. Not the first guy to do it.
Also criticism years ago was he was small and physically wouldn’t be able to fulfill a career in the NHL with big hits. Others thought he avoided all the big hits. Nothing has changed.
This is where the NFL is different. Don’t perform and you get cut. Huge contracts but it’s not all guaranteed.

He’s an idiot a-hole who I want nowhere near the kids on my team. I want the bad contract with a decent guy 100 times out of 100 and the one year and $1.25M are irrelevant.

Lol no thanks to Nurse. Besides, I’d think the Oilers would want defense more than more scoring

It’s true that if Gaudreau came back in Huberdeau’s spot he might play to the same exact level as Huberdeau, especially with no Monahan to finish or Tkachuk to draw attention to the right side.

Diss, have you herd anything from your source that the flame are even contemplating the idea? I have a hard time looking at this thread cause I don't want to be let down again when it comes to Johnny G.
