What do we have to lose…
10-91-28
49-29-73
88-11-20
24-63-22
Ideally they’d call up some kids and sit out slow, useless vets. Then hope for the best with Vlad in net. Sure are missing Kylingtons speed on the backend in OT

Prior to the Buffalo game, Markstrom was letting in the first goal of the game, on average, by the 6th shot. In both of the last two games, the second shot has gone in. I wonder what the average is now?

I don’t care if you dominate the shot clock, because at the end of the day the only thing that matters is two points. Sutter himself said last year that he’s only impressed with W’s. It’s like the coaches are trying to justify their jobs with stats that are irrelevant to the overall goal of getting wins. Playing a good game is certainly important but decisions are being made which hinder our ability to get the job done. In the absence of a captain I look at Sutter as the catalyst to get this team going (being a two time cup winner) and he is failing this group.
I won’t get into many details as to what needs to be done as many posters have articulated this better than I can but it definitely starts in net. This isn’t October anymore and we don’t have the luxury of letting Markstrom “figure it out” and having a longer leash. Being in mid February we can all see what he can bring to the table this season. It’s not good enough and a tough decision about his starts needs to occur now.
Sure it’s not ideal to bench your 6 million dollar starter, and there was a time where you extend the leash, but it’s over at this point. If he’s not capable of seeing that then perhaps the voices from above need to get involved. If there is still a continuation of trying to fit a square peg in a round hole then it’s time to bring in somebody who will embrace a winning philosophy.
Quite a few players have underperformed but this bs of playing your “boys” and riding a goalie who’s having an awful season needs to end. Sutter has the experience to be better but perhaps the ego is just too big at this point. Fans only care about W’s too so start doing what it takes to deliver.
|
You think Sutter actually thinks they ran out of gas? No, those presser answers were all to try and take the pressure off a team that was probably totally deflated in the room. Some of you guys need to learn how to read between the lines a bit. What is said in those press conferences is smoke and mirrors.

Hopefully the next time the Flames get to OT they can bury one of their 3 or 4 great chances they get. Maybe try Huberdeau out there eventually?

Wasn't even mad when they lost.
Turned to my wife when Ottawa first pulled the goalie and said "just watch they score 2 here".
So Flames for the last 30 years . I was never fooled by Johnny and Matthew years. 16 to 20th pick is the way .
Tired of sutters Brian, Daryll and Brent let's move on .
Watched the after game presser.
Sutters feeling the pressure and trying to protect his team. Makes alot of excuses excuses and is defensive when answering. The wind of change are blowing.
I personally don't see Sutters extension kicking in . i beleve sutter agreed to an extension because he believed jg and mt would be extended , I don't think Sutter will be sticking around once Treliving is not re signed as all the elements surrounding sutters re hire would have left or asked to be traded .

I can understand giving him the start again tonight but after a finish like that you just can’t anymore. Everyone in that room knows it, including Markstrom. Yikes.

This post nails it. Markstrom is getting the leash because when he is on his ceiling is was higher than Vladar. But this must be the end of the line for getting him going. Organizationally it must be very frustrating.

Huby and Pelts actually just got onto the ice when the Sens were on their rush for the GWG. Pelts was the player trying to close in on the scorer.
I think that Sutter needs to get them onto the ice earlier in OT. They should be the first or second line out. Not third.

Huberdeau is a disaster in OT. So is Kadri.

Well this just doesn't make any sense because he did the extension AFTER they were gone.
It was just before training camp.

They should really just go win and in your in down the stretch. Markstrom has probably cost the Flames at least 8 points

It's probably what they're doing. It's played out that way post break.

Markstrom IMO only played because he won the last one and Vladar didn’t. They were going with Vladar in the majority in the 10 games before the break.

You're 100% right, but Sutter should be smart enough to know that Markstrom has been wildly inconsistent (to put it mildly) and that the 1 win then a few days off is the best course of action. Instead he plays with fire and there you go.
If they really wanted to play him back into shape, allow him to regain his form, given how bad he's been then its baby steps the rest of this season. The whole season. Basically Markstrom has to sacrifice this year to get it back. Instead they keep forcing this trauma on him and us.

He's only been a disaster in OT for the Flames. He was very good in OT for Florida. It's safe to say the Flames as a team this season have been a disaster in OT.

That's my fear, and I've never known this team to go about its business with goalies any other way
I wish they had the cajones...

At this point the team is simply shooting themselves in the foot as long as they keep going back to Markstrom in a feeble attempt for him to "build his confidence back", or whatever other excuse they can find. As dumb as it sounds, I truly believe those above Sutter need to step in and do something about it.
It's like having the cure for what ails you in one vile, yet the doctor keeps injecting you with the other vile that keeps making you sicker and sicker. Not a fan of the GM stepping in to make lineup decisions, but at this point something needs to be done if this season has any chance of being saved.
I like Markstrom and think he's a good dude. But this isn't Sept/Oct/Nov where you still have some leash to find your game. This is crunch time where points MATTER and in the world's best hockey league the coaches should be icing the best roster possible to get those points. You can't tell me with a straight face that the coaches all sit in the same room together, compare the play of Markstrom and Vladar, and come away thinking that Markstrom offers the best chance to win. Pretty obvious that Sutter is a stubborn old man who is hanging onto this pipe dream of somehow breaking a Vezina goalie out of his funk and going on a run.
Meanwhile, the younger guy who can take you on that run your team desperately needs, sits in his stall wonder WTF he needs to do to get more ice time. Literally ties the franchise's goaltending record for going undefeated, yet stapled to the bench. ####ing LOL.
Kind of done with this team until they make the hard decision (which really isn't that hard TBH) and puts the damn 1B goalie in net for a long stretch run. I still want to believe "in Sutter we trust", but step 1 is Vladar in net. Without that step, this team is done for.
On a positive note, Tyler Folli is the ####! Doing his best Iggy impression from the faceoff dot. Almost PPG. Set to smash his career offensive totals. Good Tyler Folli.

Hmm Gilbert as the 2nd line winger. Now that is a new twist!
Oh I get it! This is Sutter's account and therefore still does not know that Pelts # is 49!

I think Sutter started OT with Lindholm, Backlund and Tanev. He wants to win the faceoff...i get that, but Tanev? Sometimes these decisions baffle me.
