Smart play by Rizzo. Wish it happened for any team playing the shift.

Jays win!! That's a good W. Also comforting to see Berrios settle down a bit in that outing. Loved Cimber in relief. And Vladdy, wow. Just incredible.

I love how Vladdy does not hit cheapies. He’s the best hitter in the game right now and he’s only 23. Just unreal talent and I can’t wait to see how his career plays out.

I'm getting scared about the Jays bullpen.
Just doesn't seem like they have enough high leverage arms out there, and if/when any injuries happen....yikes. Maybe I'm just having PTSD from last season haha
Ah well. Nice win! Vladdy is amazing. Couldn't lift a ball off the ground all series, then he goes off for 3 HR and a 2B for 14 bases.

A week in and both Semien and Ray off to less than stellar starts with their new bank accounts. Semien in particular .091/.130/.136 slash line. Woof.
Obviously very early but will be fun to see how their seasons progress.

ok so my biases are obvious by the avatar to the left of this post, but Vladdy's game tonight reminded me for whatever reason very much of another spring game in New York City nearly 35 years ago, when Raines in front of a national audience (Vin Scully with the call) went off with one of the best games I'll ever remember
https://sabr.org/gamesproj/game/may-...turn-to-expos/
anyways I had that thought in my head as I was driving around listening to the bottom of the 9th and then the postgame through the MLB network radio feed. the guys on MLB postgame (so not the Jays guys) were just gushing about Vlad and made the exact point that if that was the 80s and that game was the MLB game of the week the whole nation would have been watching and talking about Vlad for a long time- they went on to compare to like a Mark Fidrych start in the 70s (or I suppose Fernando in the 80s) just a performance that would have captured a whole nation (continent I guess) in a different era. high praise and really hard to argue

Yup. IMO, Vladdy is already the best hitter in baseball. Period. At 23.
And there were people here calling him a bust a couple years ago.

To be fair, I think most of the criticism was rooted in a not-unfounded fear that he’d eat himself out of the league.
Slim Daddy Vladdy, though?
Rogers is going to need a fleet of dump trucks to bring that man his money.

No kidding. His first year and a half in the league he was massively over weight, out of shape, couldn't handle 3B and could barely hit a ball in the air.
The concerns were justified IMO.
Good on him for getting straightened out though. His level of talent was never a question.
