I don't know if it's Sutter’s influence, but Treliving seems to have progressed a level. He has always been strong at managing assets, but he is doing a much better job filling gaps and finding fits.
I would rather overpay a little here and there for the right pieces. This team fits together really well and has a real identity for the first time in his tenure.
I don't know if it's Treliving taking his game to another level, or if it's just the case that things work better when the team is good. When there are problems, it seems like nothing can fix it, even when you make what should be good changes. And then when the team is solid, every decision is gold (like with Tampa over the last couple years)
(Note: this is not meant as a slight on Treliving)

Also helps that he has a coach who knows explicitly and exactly what he needs for his team…not just wants, but needs and likely gives BT grief and is riding him to get that player. Before the season, and then midseason as Sutter has a pulse of the team.
Peters I think was the same to a point, but having that specific list allows Treliving to focus on a smaller set of players rather then a general shopping list like Ward, GG, and Hartley would’ve halfheartedly provided, especially midseason.
It does feel like a bit of an overpay but I've been saying for years, it's better to overpay for waht you truly need vs. running around looking for bargains.
I'm glad we got Toffoli early to give him time to integrate with the team. A third liner like Jarnkrok feels more like plug and play. I wouldn't be shocked to see him re-signed but this team has some real hard work to do in the off season. Will be interesting.
Great work by Treliving this season. Sutter was an ultra aggressive GM and this season had had the same kind of feel. He gets who he wants.
Does anyone here know whether Jarkrok played centre or wing for the Predators when they went deep in the playoffs?
Preds fans on HF say he hasn’t played a regular C position for 5 years. But in that year dobber line combos say he played a lot with Fiala and Neal, which would put him at centre. He also played with Wilson though, who is a C.

Doesn't he like to get input from coaches? Who would be smarter on which players to bring in...Sutter or Ward? Sutter or Peters? Sutter is a top notch coach and knows who he can use and he has experience from the GM position. He may not tell Treliving how to do his job but he gives him quality feedback.
Jarnkrok said in an interview with Steinberg that he's comfortable at either wing or C. Has played a little C this season, wing for most of his career, and originally entered the league as a C.
If he does stay with the Flames past this season, maybe he eventually transitions to C like Lindholm did.
