While I think he's become a complete caricature of himself, he's absolutely right in so far that anonymity on the internet has caused people to be incredibly mean spirited and bad intentioned

That’s true of shameless people who don’t conceal their identities. I think I feel worse for those people.
One of my favourite YouTubers, the counter-apologist Genetically Modified Skeptic, had a great analysis of some of Peterson's recent profound hypocrisy and authoritarianism.

Complaining about randos being quantifiable ####heads while simultaneously openly being a quantifiable ####head protected by privilege is next level ####headery.

Eventually for high achievers, but particularly those in the spotlight, they can get high on the smell of their own poop and forget that the things they call out humanity for often apply to them as well, no matter how educated or accomplished they happen to be. You still human, bruh.
Expecting the internet to abide by the same code of ethics as you'd expect in a lecture hall is a delusional dream. Calling out the trolls on the internet condescendingly is also incredibly foolish if it's a platform you want to thrive on.
It's a battle you'll never win and you're just stoking the fires for your haters. All those smarts did a lot for Jordan, but still failed in granting him this pretty basic bit of wisdom that most average internet users possess.
I dislike dumb comment section trolls as much as the next person, but how dumb do you have to be to wage an open war with them?
The internet isn't changing its ways any time soon, as toxic as it may be.
The disgusted tone with "l-o-l" and "l-m-f-a-o" was also pretty funny and awkward.

I don't disagree he's an #######. I didn't come to his defense. I said that one point he made was right. But sure, let's argue about something else

But he wasn’t even right about that. It doesn’t stop a lot of public figures from being dicks. They just seem to care less about being identified as such.

You think if people were forced to real names online people would act the same

Sure, I think it would lead to less toxic clutter to read through. I don’t think it will turn jerks into saints or anything though.
That this message is coming from JP is rich though, because he is a great example of the opposite being true - unless he would become an even bigger pos if anonymous.
And if you have a large enough contingent who supports you already, the divisiveness can galvanize the supporters to offer more support with their attention and wallets. Meanwhile the other side offers their time and attention even just to push back.
In an age where eyeballs are what it most sought after, playing it safe can be even counter productive.
The last six years or so have shown me that MAGA deplorables and freedumb convoy supporters are 100% okay with posting racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic messages online while using their own real names. Anonymity doesn't change their behaviour at all. They mistakenly believe everyone else thinks just like they do, and if they face any consequences whatsoever for their actions, they then claim they are victims of "woke cancel culture".
