I gotta make this a regular thing, I was the first one on the lift this morning and there was no one around me on the first half a dozen runs.
11AM right now and I would say 40% of a usual weekend crowd.
Awesome.

Dude that sounds amazing. The boomers in my family would never allow such fun to take place on Christmas.

I've done that at Whistler before and yeah same idea. Get your laps in early and end the day with a late lunch.
New years day is also a good one.

Skied lake Louise on Friday, and at times the runs were busy - including longer than expected lineups to top of the world, but all in all we had a productive day.
When the glacier chair was busy, we used the juniper chair as it never has a line up
I see that lake Louise is now doing a little more grooming on the backside now, which is good for me as I like larch

First year with sunshine card. What’s a realistic time to arrive at the hill to avoid the long line along the road? They still have a shuttle patrolling the road to pick people up? Is it better to park on the road or at the parking lot off the bottom where the shuttle would turn around?
Thanks!

I've only been a few times in the past few years and always arrive early as hell, but I did hear people saying the shuttles still run picking up people from the far end of the parking lot.
Went out again today to take advantage of the quiet New Year's Day, only slightly more people than Christmas. Conditions were fine. I've discovered I can only do 5 hours before getting so tired I have to head out.

Went too Louise again today, conditions aren't much better than a couple weeks ago. Still lots of rocks poking through and ice everywhere on front side. We need snow bad!!

we were at LL yesterday, and it was a spectacular blue bird day.
i thought the front side was decent. Did a few runs off larch and it for sure needs some snow as near the top there were section of brown snow with stuff coming thru.
in general though, there is not nearly as much snow there as last year

I got a pass this year to LL after my top buddy decided to get back into skiing. His family always loved LL but I was always more of a Sunshine fan plus I know Sunshine better.
So far been really disappointed with LL, really no snow, rocks and tree/debris everywhere.
I don't like how busy it is at the base even close to 3, 4 pm. I might try a guided tour with the Ski Friends program to learn the mountain a little better.
So far Sunshine kicking butt in the snow department by far, virtually no comparison.
Also, what is up with this price increase for the Banff and Radium Hot Springs? Went from I think $6-7 to $16? Holly molly! The best part is Park Canada is talking about maintenance and capital improvements over the years. LOL. The main bathhouse doesn't look like it's had a dollar in upgrades in 30 years!

Louise pass holder for the last 20 years or so. It's thin there for this time of the year. Really thin. The snow will come. Or maybe it won't? You win some, you lose some. The last few years however were great!

Planning to hit sunshine tomorrow, hopefully there’s enough snow and it’s not too busy.

Fernie today. Great day, not busy at all. Could use a recharge. A little snow coming Sunday then more next weekend forecast.

^ lol. Where is this? Has there been rouge half-pipes springing up in this area.
Anyways, one again we seemingly can’t have rad and gnarly stuff in this city

If you go to the url, it's basically talking about fines for not clearing your sidewalk. And the picture shows the halfpipe on a sidewalk (though that detail isn't terribly obvious). So it's just a hamfisted attempt to be cute.

Haha, wtf. Heaven forbid the neighbourhood kids get together, creatively build something fun, then work on their skills and get exercise. Fata this. I hope the kids rip that sign down and use it as a foundation to build a jump.

What he said. There is no bylaw against kids having fun with the snow assuming it's not in the middle of the sidewalk - this seems reasonable.
Fun fact, there is a bylaw provision for "skateboard and sports ramps" specifying the allowable dimensions of built structures in the rear setback. It excludes at grade features built out of soil and other materials from the allowable dimensions. In other words, snow "ramps" (forts, jumps, etc.) are completely permitted on your private parcel with no limits to size.

Spent the last four days at Asulkun Hut where we got some good turns on sheltered slopes despite a spooky avalanche forecast.
We dug two pits: one in the alpine that sluffed off some small storm slabs and another at treeline that was slow to react but failed suddenly. In other words, the snowpack is unlikely to avalanche from a skier's weight but if you're unlucky enough to trigger something it could go big. I know a lot of the folks in this thread are resort skiers, but just a reminder to stay safe out there!

Is that your photo or one from the operator of that lodge? Either way it's beautiful.
