Hard not to be excited by that interview. I like his demeanour and maturity.

Hopefully isn't in Harvard past year two, but already in the pros.
Again, struck me as a guy that doesn't want to wait 4 years to play in the pros.

I don’t think Treliving would have picked this player if he didn’t know he could sign him.
Excited to see what he does.

He often gets the nod for first questions as well. I don't get it.

HF Oil was pretty jelly. They're crossing their fingers we can't get him signed.

Yeah that was a good intro interview, sounds focused and confident. He looks tough already too so size probably not really an issue.
Good pick and looks like we'll see him in the lineup here at some point.
Will there be a rookie camp this year, I'd imagine he'll be here for that.
Also 69 & 57 PIM in last 2 seasons in USHL.

Flames actually have 3 first round picks in the pipeline. It's been awhile since that has been true so we got that going for us.

Seniority, probably. (Or maybe they're letting him go first so he doesn't forget what he was going to ask?)

How is he “representing the franchise”? I thought this was media questioning?

I haven’t seen a single mock where he is top 5
Mostly in the 12-15 range
The Flames pretty much got him where he is ranked

I’m happy with this pick. His interviews were great. Anyone who prides himself on competitiveness and work ethic and scores 48 goals in 51 games is unlikely to be a bust, I’d say.

Treliving says he has no concerns (in relation to Coronato going to college and maybe taking the Adam Fox route) and they feel real comfortable

All I can get
|
From NHL.com
Quote:
13. Calgary Flames -- Matthew Coronato, RW, Chicago (USHL)
NHL Central Scouting: No. 9 (North American skaters)
Coronato finished first in the United States Hockey League this season with 48 goals, 19 power-play goals and eight game-winning goals, was tied for first with four shorthanded goals, and second with 85 points and a 1.67 points-per game average in 51 regular-season games. The 18-year-old (5-10, 183) led all scorers with nine goals, 13 points and a 1.63 points-per game average in six USHL playoff games and is committed to play at Harvard University next season.
NHL.com analysis: Coronato is a dominant offensive force who blends top-end goal scoring, strong skating and a physical approach, similar to United States Hockey Hall of Fame forward John LeClair. He was nicknamed "Bison" because of the way he goes hard to the net in the offensive zone.

In Tre’s interview, he said he liked Coronato’s compete level/work ethic/drive like 7 times in the first 15 seconds. He also said he liked his goal scoring ability.
As Treliving has gone on about Coronato, he has clearly continued to focus on (1) goal scoring, (2) compete level, hunger, work ethic, drive, etc.
I find the second focus interesting because I think I would describe Tre’s drafting as focusing primarily on competitiveness. That’s a common denominator in players like Pelletier, Zary, Mangiapane, Dube, Valimaki, Coronato, etc.
He also mentioned that he is strong and goes to the difficult areas of the ice.
Finally, he mentions him being a popular teammate, leadership ability, intelligence and moral character.

John LeClair? Those are some big skates to fill, especially if you're only 5'10".

Excerpts from hockey prospects "black book" which is just a BEAST of a guide.
Hockey sense: 7
Compete: 9
Skill: 7
Skating: 6
random notes:
- relentless drive
- "extremely rare to see a player who is as skilled, show the mental consistency away from the puck"
- never runs out of "battery cells"
- sometimes dials it too high and ends up turning the puck over
- quickly can recognize the play off the puck
- needs to improve skating mechanics

Those are pretty insane numbers for a guy in his draft year.
Gaudreau had 72 points in 60 games in the USHL in his draft year.
Similar production to Kyle Connor in his draft year.
