You know if they just kept the black C on those wordmark jerseys instead of the wordmark, it would have been brilliant. Like perfect.

When he finishes it with ........ and the eye emojis he's definitely being sarcastic.

The players flat out asked Burke if they could not wear them anymore, citing bad luck. I'm sure they didn't like the look either.

The wordmark jersey is the ugliest jersey the Flames have ever worn. Even a black C in place of the wordmark wouldn't have saved them.

The shoulders were dumb (but the patch was nice), the wordmark was ugly, and the letters were ugly.

Just awful.

I contend that the McDonald's heritage classic were equally awful.

The fake ones that are McDonald's colours definitely are.

The real maroon coloured ones are better, but I still don't love them personally.

This article from Sony Sachdeva was published in January, but there is a lot of inside information from Ryan Popowich, the Flames director of marketing. It talks about the switch to the retros and discussion of Blasty. It's

SN: There’s plenty of interest in Calgary in making the switch to the retro jerseys permanently as the primary Home and Away — is that a change the team’s planning to make?

Popowich: Obviously it’s been something in discussion — it’s not really a secret that we’ve thought about it for a while. We’ve introduced the retro jersey as a third jersey for a number of years now, so it’s been in place here, and we’ve been toying with hit. Obviously we use it more and more. But again, there is a process — flipping your actual primary Home and Away jerseys takes a bit of time in terms of process, if you’re going to go down that road.

Between that article and this from AC last year is how I thought this was all old news. Time flies.

Now all they need to do is retire Harvey and call Scorch up from the minors/jail.

Was just told a great story about the flags by Popowich.

Whenever Ken King would meet a fan wearing a jersey with them on it, he'd hit them in the chest, say "Calgary," and then he'd tap 'em in the shoulders and say "Alberta" and "Canada."

He apparently even once overruled Bettman himself on a phone call about them. Gary called to say, "you can't do this." King responded with, "we're doing this." And they did it.

Curious with some talk about Blasty potentially coming back at some point, and with the team going back to the retros, would anyone be happy to see these jerseys brought back at some point in the future.

I was told by Popowich that the Flames' design team really doesn't like the white C with the black outline on the pedestals at all. He said the fact that it's still on the pants is actually a mistake that they've been trying to get fixed with the manufacturer for a while.

Good story, but it's still a bad design choice.

Throw the black C on that thing and you got a winner. This coming from a guy that loves this jersey and has the authentic in his collection.

I have a bone to pick with this design team.

Everything new thats been designed around the Flames has unilaterally stunk for years.

Best thing they've done over a decade is revert to an old design.

Magbe *they* don't like them, but pedestals and white Cs beat the hell out of what they've been pumping out, which hasn't even been much.

The designers should view the merch similarly to the majority of the fanbase since that's who they're hoping to appeal to. People like the late 90s styles, many like blasty, and many especially like the 03-07 home iteration.

And the best the team could do is shuffle the flag monstrosities to the thirds rather than resurrect something people actually like. Yeah okay King, but we've already had 13 years of his patches/legacy. Thats enough.

I just see making them the thirds as really lazy. Thats not what an alternate is generally supposed to be. Maybe in 15-20 years its more appropriate because then it's actually a throwback.

Anyways, grats to them on making the easiest and most obvious decision of all time in regards to Flames jerseys.

Re: the pedestal jersey: I hope not. Beyond disliking the pedestal jersey it reminds me of a dark era in Flames history.

That jersey was in the "It So Ugly It Grew on Me" category.

I also got it on sale when they liquidated these.

I know it's not perfectly retro, but the one change I wish they'd make to the logo would be to add a red outline between the white and yellow on the logo like they did on the 2011 Heritage Classic jerseys.

If you get rid of the big yellow stripe on the jersey, like they did with the practice jerseys, it looks really good.

Also, those two-colour gloves they wore for that game were so nice.
