Yep, it's conference based rankings 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, and 4-5. The top 4 teams from the regular season standings in each conf do the round robin games to determine 1st to 4th place for the next round. A win is worth 2 points and regular season rules apply and there is the SO.
The 4 mini playoff series are for the 5th to 12th place teams and those winning teams will pair up with the top 4 teams. The lowest playing the highest.

I think the big thing Ward has going for him is just that he seems very calm and nonplussed by the playoffs. In past years it felt like the Flames got too tight when the games were important. Ward's demeanor seems a good fit (based off the little we see in the media, he could be screaming and throwing things in the dressing room for all I know)

That was entertaining. Really enjoyed that mini series.
Best player in the series was Andersson IMO. Was a rock on the back end and helped settle things down when the team was running around. He and Hanafin completely shut the Jets down. Rasmus played a very quiet game and didn't get the kudos he deserved.
Have to give massive kudos to Bennett and Lucic for that last game. Wow! What a performance. Completely got in the Jets heads and made them scared to be on the ice. Dominated in a way I haven't seen a Flames line dominate in decades. I'm still trying to figure out who is the straw stirring the drink, but Dube adds a certain dynamic to that pair that makes then dangerous in every shape or form. The guy is just flat out good in all three zones. Fantastic performance from this line.
A guy that deserves some kudos as well is Mr. Jankowski. I thought he was done and would never see the ice again for the Flames. But he came in, played hard, and contributed in a big way. He even threw some hits. If he continues to show like this he may yet redeem himself.
Have to hand it to Cam Talbot. Has grabbed the bull by the horns and wrestled that sucker to its knees. Provided the consistent goaltending this team needs and looked calm while doing it. I do miss Rittich's emotion between the pipes, and the jolt that can give the team, but you can't arue with the performance we just saw. Outplayed Helleybuck handily.
Everything was not rainbows and unicorns. There were some not great performances out there. Tkachuk and Giordano stood out for not doing much. Both were disappointing in their inability to generate much offense. Tkachuk has to be more than a distract to the opposition for this team to be successful moving forward. I do have to ask the question, is Father Time finally catching up to Gio? He was a step or two behind on most shifts.
Worst player on the Flames was Johnny Hockey. Played scared is the only way to look at his performance. He spent more time down the tunnel than he did in danger areas generating offense. He was a giveaway machine and spent more time listening for footsteps than wanting the puck to make plays. This is the time of year where your best have to step up and shine and Johnny disappeared, yet again. He's my favorite Flame, but he has to step his game up and being a player when the games get physical, or he has to go.
Was a fun way to get back into hockey, but now the real games are about to begin. Hope the Flames can get everyone drinking the same stuff that Bennett and Lucic are consuming and play that hard every shift. They do that and they could be dangerous. GFG!

I don't believe that's Wards M O
He and Lucic have been there before together. This has been kind of a weird gift when you look at it.
We retain Ward after the Peters Fiasco, we end up with Lucic who has won it with Ward....shedding a cancer like Neal and ending up with 2 voices in the room changing the narrative, philosophy, methodology etc .
The players seem so much more focused .....weird we have so many ex oilers on the squad playing well.
What a weird time....2020....
Peters Fired
Ward retained
Kinger passes
Covid
Bubble
Playin won

@New Era
I will respectfully disagree with your assessment that Tkachuk didn’t do much. He drew a bunch of penalties, contributed offensively, and absorbed the burden and focus of the entire series for a happenstance play. While everyone else was talking and whining about him as the focal point, he and his teammates went about their business to win a series right under their noses.

Dube and Mangiapane look more like the real deal with every passing game, and it's great to see Bennett and Lucic playing well also.
It only gets harder from here though, so hopefully the depth continues to shine.

My one cousin seems to be taking the loss with class and actually sounds like he's cheering for the Flames the rest of the way which is a little surprising because he can be a loose cannon when it comes to the Jets and Bombers.
My other cousin made a post on Facebook about how she was going to go on a rant but she'll just let karma do it's thing. I called her out on it and how the injuries were unfortunate but nothing that deserves karma. She then told me to enjoy the win until the next series when I boycott because of the officiating and then went onto say she was talking about winning the draft lottery and all of the bad luck the Jets have had and that I must have a guilty conscious.
Sure you did. She also deleted one of my comments calling her salty.

I honestly think this is Bennett’s coming out party, much like Ferland against Vancouver.
He’s a centre. He’s got decent linemates. He’s getting positive reinforcement. It’s perfect.
He won’t be the dominant player we saw last night all the time, but he’s the #3 centre. Ward giving him the runway is huge. Dube arriving and Looch’s experience help feed into to the positive feedback loop for Benny.
Gah it’s awesome.

The team backed up the talk in this qualifying series. Yes Winnipeg was short handed but the Flames took full advantage with 3 dominating victories in 4 games.
Playoff Sam Bennett is real and the third line looks like one of those classic playoff lines. Lucic and Dube were also great. I was all for starting Rittich before the series began but glad to say I was wrong and Talbot looks great right now.
Mangipane looks like a legit top 6 forward so all of a sudden the Flames look like a deep team up front. This series win was very encouraging and I am cautiously optimistic about the next round.

A few thought
I was really ok with what MT, he was the lightning rod on this team and was getting all kinds of attention when he was on the ice, that makes it tougher to score, but watching him I thought he was good.
Lucic showed his value in that series, against Colorado he struggled because of his slow speed and frankly a pretty poor response from the whole team. But he was great and noticeable for the right reasons except for one shift in game 3.
Yeah Gaudreau is having offensive problems, but he's still generating room out there. But what I really noticed was his back pressure work without the puck was really good and he doesn't get credit for it.

Writing is very clear on the wall. Hanafin and Andersson elevate each others games and will be paired together going forward.
Obviously leaves Hamonic expendable

I’ll admit, I didn’t think the Flames were going to win another game after G2. I felt like we had all seen this movie before. I’m so proud of the team for making me feel stupid. I seriously thought we were headed for a full-scale rebuild. Great character shown by the guys.
There are so many fun and exciting storylines to choose from in in the series. That third line was incredible and endlessly entertaining. Eat Bread and Dube emerging. Andersson and Hanafin being studs on the blue line. Talbot playing calm and collected. Even Janko played well yesterday!
I agree with Bingo from the game takes: yeah, the Jets were ripe for the picking but it’s still a series victory and an excellent confidence booster for this team. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Huge credit to the Jets for hanging in there given their circumstances. No credit to Maurice for pulling an Isiah and Laimbeer against the Bulls.
Can’t wait for more Flames hockey. This has been a treat! For the first time in awhile, I actually feel confident in and excited by this team.

Yeah, that is what I am thinking. Flames got little respect from the broadcast and even after the game they preferred to talk about the Toronto game when it was well after 1am in Toronto. It seems they have given the black hat to the Flames, so F them, bring on the next opponent to take out behind the woodshed.

A couple gems from the ATL...
"hope laffy likes -40 and ####ty wifi"
Also the complete lack of self-awareness from an Oiler fan with this delusional tidbit...
"Flames are going to get dusted next round. Feel for their fans, waiting 4.5 months to watch everything evaporate in game 1."
Umm, at least our team has made it to game 1.
