smitty has been the best player on this team.
2 months ago, i'd have agreed with you, but now? I'd have no issue with a 1 year contract...
i mean who else is there that is actually available?

You know what I don't want to see more of? Johnny whining to the refs. Just put your damn head down and go to work. Stop complaining and whine about non-calls, it really makes us all look like whiners. There is not a single other player on the ice crying to the refs like that, so stop it and focus on playing some semi-decent hockey.

I don't buy it. I don't think he has the horses.

I'd say Smith earned himself another contract with this team. Realistically what goalies can we target/acquire this summer without breaking the bank.

I don't know about that. Every off season, BT has made a big move. Just because they are core, doesn't mean they're untouchable. This is back-to-back seasons now where Monahan's play completely dropped off a cliff. Last year was understandable with the injury, what is it this year?
Avs are showing just how important it is to be fast and have skill. Large portion of the core are slow movers. More speed with skill needs added to it.
Unfortunately, getting the players the Flames need now is pretty difficult with creating a new hole elsewhere. How do you try to trade a core player for another player that's suppose to be better than the one(s) you're giving up? Not easy.

The Flames did not play a good game but in this league, you can win when you're the 2nd best team on the ice. The fact that the refs/linesmen don't call jack for 57 minutes and then decide to call a weak penalty on Backlund and then stare at Valimaki get highsticked in the dying seconds is absolutely gut wrenching. What a ####ing disgrace

Yup, it's all between the ears with this team, same old story. Seems like it's always their confidence that is so frail.

Him and Gio.
Gio has struggled a bit too but think a lot of it had to do with the tire fire around him.
Next game they need to just blow up the lines:
I’d go:
Gaudreau-Lindholm-Bennett
Tkachuk-Monahan-Czarnik
Dube-Backlund-Frolik
Mangiapane-Ryan-Hathaway
Both Neil and Janko are too slow and not tenacious enough for this series.

Came for the overreactions ... found them. Almost 300 of them so far, in fact. Wow. Holy moly, calm down.
The Flames burned themselves in part...but I thought tonight they played a pretty good game tonight. Missed a few great chances, gave up some and Smitty bailed them out.
Flames got a lesson and came to the table to play today...the fact that they couldn't play up to the required standard in OT -- now that is information for BT. What he will do about that, we'll see.
The fact that it took the Flames 4 games to figure out how to play in the playoffs -- now that's information for Peters. What he will do about that, we'll see.
Possibly a sad ending to a good season...but that is why they play the games.

The one thing I will say (even though the Flames got outplayed tonight), that this is a game where you can lay half the blame on the refs. That was atrocious the minute the Flames took a 1 goal lead.
The positive news is that they have some building blocks on the back end (Valamaki, Andersson, Kylington, Hanifin). Up front they need more speed and more 1 shot scorers. Their isn't 1 Flame that you fear when he is about to shoot the puck, and the PP struggles because of it.

This is a great post! Sorry to hear you got lambasted.

I don't think it is wise to be trading players from a position of weakness after a terrible playoff series from everybody not named Mike Smith.

I dont .... Smitty will end his season as a Warrior who didn't let his team or fans down.
He will be disappointed but can hold his head high

How do you coach your top players to just play to their ability. The leaders on this team are choking, nervous, that’s not a coaching issue. None of these players are used to having NHL expectations on them, and they are folding under the pressure. There a big difference showing up and getting it done as the underdog, like the 04 Flames and getting over the hurdle of being a favourite. Unfortunately our players are failing miserably at their first kick at it.

I will never get optimistic about this team as long as we have this core. They don’t want it bad enough. Never did. What a sad franchise...

This definitely isn’t impossible. The signing makes Treliving look terrible, not Peters. Neal’s inexplicably long leash all season can’t just be a coaching decision
Treliving needs to swallow his pride and buy out Neal. Brouwer is better
