Pretty damn exciting game full of emotion. Anyone watch this game without being emotionally invested? I think not.

I will start with the bad:

- PP looked atrocious, and it is against one of the weaker PK teams in the league. You aren't going to stop the goons from doing stupid stuff if you can't make them pay for it.

- Flames giving up way too many glorious chances - 3 breakaways. That's got to be fixed.

- The Refs - Won't mention all the missed calls, but they allowed the Oilers to start gooning it up. Why not call the penalty on Nurse for the hold/interference on Bennett along the boards? Why not give Kassian the game for his ground and pound on Tkachuk, rather than just 10 mins? I love fighting in games, but I always think that when a player gets jumped and the other player starts punching away, even with the refs pulling him off and the other player not punching back, it should be an automatic game misconduct. IMO, there is a place for fighting in hockey. There is no place for grounding and pounding.
- Cheap shot by Nurse. Seriously, what a baby. Throws a sneaky punch after the fight is over and both refs are in the way. It wasn't one of those times where both players are actively still throwing and the refs stop it. There was a long pause that started when the refs broke it up until that Nurse cheap-shot. He has no idea about 'the code'. Really dislike him.

That's all.

The good:
- Sam Bennett. Tkachuk is often credited for bringing the team into the war. Tonight it started with Bennett. Demolished Nurse with a huge open-ice hit, and held his own in a fight that I thought he would lose. He was noticeable all over the ice - physically, offensively creating chances, breaking up plays in the defensive zone, and mucking it up.
- Tkachuk - I would absolutely LOVE to have Tkachuk mic'd up for a game. I would rather listen to his play-by-play, as it would probably be an improvement over Randorf's and his "Sean Bennett". He really threw the Oilers off their game.
- Backlund - Name one other player in the league that is this effective against McDavid? Love the tenacity he is bringing. Love how he didn't take any of McDavid's tantrums and wrestled him down.

That's a single line!

Rittich was sharp and stopped this one from getting out of hand in the first, and just as importantly, made the big stops at the right times.

Lastly, Ryan. I have consistently been underwhelmed by him in most games, and I especially thought he would have shied away and disappeared tonight with all the rough stuff happening. I started noticing him more this game for good plays. Still threw the puck away at times, and his passing at times was just so far off, but way less turnovers, showed more tenacity in this game that was reminiscent of his Colorado game a couple of weeks ago, and I said: "Watch him score if he keeps playing like this." That goal was huge for the Flames.

Brodie. Anyone left on this forum that would rather have Hamilton on the team over Brodie? It has been all confidence with Brodie. Peters is a smart coach and realizes what he has on the team, and how to use it. I imagine that by seasons' end, in posts where we are talking about 'the core', most of his will have Brodie as a fixture on that list.

Lindholm - He is playing with such tenacity in all zones. He deserved to get that empty netter to go along with his goal. He is the Flames' most complete player right now.

Gulutzan. He got fired, and it is classless to hit a guy when he is down, but am I ever glad that he isn't Calgary's coach any longer. For two seasons I watched a Flames' team that folded when things got too hard. Folded when the Oilers struck first and caused a bit of panic. Peters knows how to nip it in the bud. Gulutzan would have had no answers tonight. Peters did. Flames are as resilient under Peters as they were under Hartley.

Fricken' fun game to watch!

I love how we were getting after McDavid. He probably had his worst game of the season and I think that has a lot to do with Backlund, Chucky and others getting after him.

Yes it is . McLellan does it everytime . They only have lucic to protect Mcdavid. You want to hurt the Oilers go after McDavid early or just threaten Mcdavid and Lucic will get thrown on that line.

Brodie and Backlund both played great against McDingdong. Hamonic had a fantastic game too and Rittich was the MFing boss. Sloppy game for 40 mins and the goalie was the difference. what a beauty.

Nice to see some hate in the BOA.

Rewatching the game now, DeBrusk is really, really bad.

He has no idea what's happening most of the time, stumbles over himself "Tkachuk talking to Tkachuk", and is a blatant homer. The number of times he refers to the Draisaitl "hit" on Tkachuk in the first period alone...

I was impressed with Frolik tonight, despite not showing up on the score sheet.

IMO, his play hasn't demoted him to the 4th line, but it's the fact that he can lead the line and always make the smart decisions, while still being a threat to score that put him there. He is kind of an unsung hero and is the ultimate team player.

After the Bennett fight some Oiler fans behind me were claiming that was Bennett's 2nd fight ever in the NHL after the one vs Cole!

I turned and explained, no he's actually beat up several tough players over the years including Manson, Trouba, and Johansen.

They were whining non-stop about dives and how dirty all the Flames were for going after McDavid. They were also saying Tkachuk was a ##### for not fighting Kassian. I laughed and said it made no sense to fight considering there were clearly several penalties being called already, and Tkachuk has no reason to fight an awful plug like Kassian.

Surprisingly they Oiler trashtalking didn't seem to show up in the 3rd period, just like the Oiler players themselves!

**** the oilers. **** mcdavid. **** lucic. **** Gulatzan. And most of all, f*** Kassian. He is the ugliest, dumbest Neanderthal in the league and proved it tonight. I would be embarrassed to have him on my team, what a clown. Such a satisfying win. Oh, btw mcllelan, putting on Kassian with a couple min left when the game is out of reach? **** you too. Suck on it oilers.

I think this game shows that players like Tkachuk and Marchand win games.
Players like Kassian and Lucic don't.

You can be a "truculent" team without playing limbering zero-offense pylons.

I noticed when the game was over and the players went to Rittich how Smith gave Rittich a big hug and held on to him for some extended words. I really liked that. Doesn't seem like Smith is sulking at all, and I don't feel there is any issue with him in the room, actually it looks like the complete opposite if you factor in what Sigalet had to say about the situation.

I couldn't help but laugh when he was bitching about McDavid's penalty and how the Flames still got a powerplay after the scrum. Come on dude, you're embarrassing yourself.

Burke mentioned too tonight that he's well liked in the dressing room.

What angered me was that the Flames kept bumbling the PP's that would have stopped that coiler gong show running everyone they wanted.

Gio played terrible in the first 40.
Neal invisible for all but 20 seconds on the night.
Rittich was outstanding all game, gave the Flames the hope they needed in the 3rd.

Ryan"s goal lifted the team that as bad and scared as they played the Geeasers only put up 2.
The Flames should be commended on digging and deep and not going quitely into the 3rd period instead they should balls and flat out dominated the entire 3rd period.
Probably the biggest win of the season so far.
Tkachuk was clearly targeted all game, didnt fer any points but he drew 4 pp for the team.
Lindholm was great but had an incredible 3rd especially.
It was great watching all the loud obnoxious combative greaser cockroaches scurry for exits
I don’t envy your hangover.

I tried to say out of the game thread because of the overreactions.

I don't think the Flames played horrible in the first and second. They just had a couple of turnovers and Oilers capitalized. Rittich played exceptional. Bennett and Tkachuk were awesome stirring things up -- really hoping Bennett can break out offensively.

Lindholm has been fantastic this year -- strong 2 way play, can keep up with Johnny/Mony, excellent on face offs and isn't afraid to go to the dirty areas.

Hopefully this can lead to a string of wins for the Flames.
