OK so he signs in March instead of January...no difference really.
I think Friedmans point was that there is actually an advantage to offering teams if they want to play it that way.

It's still a risk for him... injury or poor start/team performance and they bail on the offer

Eventually it becomes a bad contact...if you win a cup in the meantime time it's worth it I suppose.
12M is a stretch for an 80 point player....those numbers will certainly decline at some point

Assuming, not reporting. But it’s sourced. A player on that team is “almost certain he’s gone”. Players haven’t been speaking about this, even to close friends & family. Now they are. “He wouldn’t jerk the other teams around until midnight if he was staying”. Exactly.

That Horton cap hit is going to hurt big time when it comes to signing Mathews and Marner next year. Horton plus Kadri should be much cheap to acquire than just Kadri alone, as Horton has huge negative value.
