While the NDP did gain votes and seats, the night is certainly Fords, and this is another example of voter anger crushing a party.

Kathleen Wynne's conceding strategy completely failed as a lot of the long time Liberals were sent packing, and in the end the hope of either sneaking up the middle or of preventing a majority and giving the Liberals some kind of say in a minority government utterly failed. Its now up to Ford on whether the Liberals get official party status and the funding that comes with it, my thought is that Horwath will push Ford not to grant that status as the NDP would directly benefit from a dead Liberal Party. And right now for the next few years, the Liberal brand is dead while they rebuild, and they're going to have to get on the fund raising horse.

I watched Wynne's speech tonight and while it was emotional, she mentioned that she was passing the torch to the next generation, and that would be a nice sentiment if she hadn't set the house on fire and burned it to embers before passing it on. Its going to be tough to find anyone that's going to want to pick up the baton.

Not necessarily Ford's night but the PC's as a party. Impossible to say what would happen now but I'd bet that any of the other leadership candidates (except maybe Brown) would have done at least as well and probably better. Their polling numbers dropped substantially under Ford. This election was a Liberal loss more than a PC gain IMO, same as the AB election was more of a PC loss than a NDP win. It will be up to Ford to govern from the centre-right if he wants to win the next one.

Ah yes. When a right of center party listens to the people it's populism. Anyone else does it and democracy is working.

Got it.

I do not really care about the result either way but my Grandma in Mississauga will be happy and I always like it when a long term corrupt and complacent government gets slaughtered at the polls.

I have to admit I chuckled when she announced she was stepping down and a bunch of people in the crowd gasped and moaned.

The usual political cycle.
Not really a vote for anything or anybody in particular.
More a vote against more of the same.

I don't understand why she didn't resign a year ago. She didn't have a chance coming in to this election results CRN a year out.

Ontario could be done as a "bleeding blue" province. Trudeau's charisma got them back to voting liberal, but they must be pretty disenfranchised with the liberals to go back to the conservatives so quickly and dominantly.

Wow the Liberals still got 1.1 million votes. Not bad for only 7 seats.

I'm not sure peoples' likely voting in a federal election should be predicted by their votes in a provincial election, particularly not this one. Though to the extent it can influence the federal vote, Doug Ford has an entire year to screw up royally and do Trudeau a lot of favours. The best thing he could possibly do for himself and for Scheer would be to adopt a policy of invisible prudence. Nothing remotely controversial, be as boring as possible, pass almost solely legislation aimed at budgetary restraint, and make no news. Attempt to lull Ontario to sleep. That's probably what Ontarians would prefer anyway.

I would think that the people of Ontario gave him the popular vote so that he can go to his first remarks today and talk about how he's going to strike the carbon tax, and to look out your window because here comes the buck a beer choo choo train.

I always chuckle for that.

Person - "I'm resigning as leader of the party, I'm passing the torch on to the next generation"

Person B - "Gasp" (Thanks for leaving us a smoking ruin you butt hole)

Person C - "Nooooo" (Oh no really, now we have to find someone that's actually good)

Person D - "We love you resigning person" (Leadership convention means more free drinks, free food, and I'm soooo happy)

Haha pretty much. It's funny anyone could really be irked about this, like him or not he's at least a change of some degree. The previous Ontario regime basically ruined the province on many fronts...how could this government do any worse?

I don't have faith in the people to not elect Ford PM in a few years time.

Doug Ford just got elected Premier of the most populated province in Canada. If that doesn't alarm you then enjoy watching Tucker Carlson tonight and silently nodding half the time.
