Three questions to Johnny from Principe, and predicatably 2 had to do with the Oilers.

...I’m going to go down as the one Lazar supporter on this forum...

He had a good period for a 4th liner. He’s like the rest of the forwards on the 3rd and 4th line though - can’t convert offensively. He missed one shot wide, whoopsie. Otherwise, he and his 4th line pals were working hard and driving the puck into the offensive zone.

He’s a developing player on the 4th line. Time. Patience.

From the comments I thought he had made several blunders. If that was it, I think it's over the top. Stone has one of those per game.

Almost time to let Lazar develop further in the AHL.

I just got home from the beach to see the score, life can't get much better than this! Go Flames Go!!! Suck it Edmonton!

Go away Spector. So lame we are forced to watch the Oilers feed. They are the worst in the league and whenever I watch their games I always choose the opposing feed.

He also couldn’t scoop a rebound that he had to stretch out for, so again...pretty forgivable as a young 4th liner.

If he was a homegrown player, I think fans would love him and be a lot more understanding of his (minor) missteps. Everyone piles on because...we gave up a 2nd rounder for him? I believe in this kid. He may never end up scoring a bunch, but he’s developing in all 3 zones and showing signs of improvement.

Lazar’s game is improving at the NHL level, and he can’t go down to the AHL (also, I still don’t think he’d clear waivers). He’s not hurting the team, he’s just not converting his chances. But he is starting to get chances, which is a good sign.

Did Principe just say it was a decent period only being down by 2? Haha! Talk about setting the bar low!

Just LOL at that panel.
General thought from all 3, though Louie is getting pressured in to the team speak, is that the Oilers can be generally satisfied with that period.

I would agree and think he’s been a solid 4th liner but they all need to be aware of that sort of thing sometimes it’s better to get a simple shot on net and go for rebound then to try for a hard high corner that is high risk to ring around and go the other way.. especially with McDavid on the ice because that could bite
Them in the butt badly.

He’s not the only one guilty of it either, people tend to pile on him more then any other for things

sportsnet has to do better than this and give some Flame input to this broadcast

Why couldnt they bring up someone from Calgary to at least be on the panel - its not a Oiler broadcast - its supposed to be or at least appear to be unbiased

Maybe Quinn and Cassie?

SN just blowing the Oilers some more even though they suck

Lazar has some decent aspects to his game... without the puck...

with the puck, he's as awkward as a pimply faced teen asking a girl to slow dance for the first time.

I think the most beneficial thing for Lazar was being given a consistent role. He's shown continual improvement in that role.

Personally, I am not and have never really been a Curtis Lazar fan, but I can't deny he's starting to develop a place on this team. If his production could respond in kind then the Flames will have gotten a fast, energetic fourth line forward for a 2nd round pick. To me that's an equal gamble to making the pick.
