For what it's worth, one of the three guys I spoke to also said that he was betting on Iginla signed by Calgary soon to play his last season here. To be perfectly clear: he did not claim any inside info. Just said he was willing to bet on it, because it made so much sense to him from every angle.

I really thought the deadline last year (for a playoff run) was the right time.
I wasn't advocating it for this season at all, but if this is true I can live with it if it's a low dollar one year contract.
Tough as nails, veteran, still has an elite shot, power play boost, can drop the gloves etc.
I was terrified the Doan rumours might be true and I'd take this over that any day.
Plus it would be worth it for New Era melt-down alone.

Didn't someone say at a STH event Burke said iginla isn't interested in coming back to yyc?

Has there been any actual rumours about Doan and the Flames? I only recall some posters speculating that he was the anonymous veteran player that Treliving referred to in one of the STH meetings. That doesn't count as a rumour.

Rumours was the wrong word. Guesswork / insinuations. Even though (hopefully) there was no merit to them, they still frightened me.

Going to be a long week of waiting to see if this rumour pans out.
I'm already having visions of opening night, Iginla in a Flames jersey again, on this strong defensive team, with some youthful skill around him, no pressure to be the guy, a great group and a fun situation, boisterous C of Red, and the hope around town of maybe, just maybe we could see Iggy raise a cup on home ice.

I would support this move 110 percent. I've said it for 2 years. We all know Jarome deserves a cup. But that's not likely to happen easily. Ending his career on a young team on the rise is a good ending. He's a good team mate. Tough player. And most importantly he knows it's a different situation then it was when he left. Let's bring Jarome home. Let him play lesser minutes and see how it goes.
