Personally I absolutely hate Versteeg. Came across as arrogant when with the Leafs. Very mediocre player at this stage of his career. Not a fan of this move at all. Who else could have the Flames moved on instead of him I have no idea, but I just don't like the idea of him being in a Flames jersey. Early favorite to be the fan whipping boy I predict.
If he buries 20+ of Gaudreau's no look passes I bet you'll be fine hating him right?
Wasn't Versteeg one of the Blackhawk players that Friedman said was saying was saying disgusting things to Iginla during the playoffs. Friedman wouldn't even repeat what he was saying because it was so vulgar and he said he has never seen a player take that much verbal abuse on the ice.
Probably; Byfuglien was another. But it was effective, Iggy was off his game that whole series and the Flames were outclassed by a much younger and inexperienced Chicago team destined for greatness.

Weird to have a 3 team no-trade clause. I doubt the Oilers are on the list since it's close to home. I doubt he wants to be traded at the deadline because being close to home is important to him, therefore I would predict the teams on his list are Stanley Cup contenders. Maybe Blackhawks, Penguins and Kings.
Looks like a bunch of lip service to me. If his priority was playing close to home why did he sign with HC Bern before July was over? The only reason he is back in the NHL is because he failed his physical with HC Bern.
Well if you believe Dreger, he had one firm offer from the Islanders (which he turned down) then no further offers. No further offers in North America go look at Europe.

It was Pierre McGuire who reported it but not sure who the players were.

When Bern fell apart he came back to Alberta.
That's my point though, if being close to home was a priority he would have looked at things in North America longer rather than signing in Europe after 3 weeks.

Never been a huge fan of his but it's low risk and it probably helps getting another vet player in the room. I thought the idea we would grab a wavier player and toss them on the top line was ridiculous. Hopefully he gives us options on the RW and maybe that's it, which is fine.
Also I get people didn't like the Hawks talking filth to our captain back then but maybe someone or the captain should have done something about it then.

From the article posted earlier in the thread, Versteeg actually said him and his parents were Oiler fans growing up but his grandparents were Flames fans. Ha - maybe he hid it from his grandpa!
