When I think about it, this is really the best possible move to address our goaltending. Elliott should be a solid #1, did not cost a lot to acquire, and perhaps most importantly will only make 2.5 million this season. This is crucial because it should leave enough cap room for the Treliving to pursue a top-6 RW in free agency even after the Gaudreau/Monahan extensions. As long as they can fit that player in for this season a lot of cap space will open up for 17-18 with guys like Smid, Engelland, Bollig, Raymond, Wideman becoming UFA, if they haven't been moved already.
Overall really shrewd move by Treliving, you can tell he explored every possible avenue and rightly arrived at the conclusion that the other available goalies would be too much to acquire, too much of a risk based on contract status, too much against the cap, or not certain enough in their on-ice performance. Well done, Brad!

I love that he's already updated his Twitter picture to this. I'm fairly certain he's quite excited to come to Calgary. This is awesome, great pickup especially considering the cost/cap hit.

I Googled why he's called Moose:
On where he got the nickname, ‘Moose,’ and if he likes hearing fans use it:
“It’s kind of caught on. It started with Chris Stewart three or four years ago…Now the fans are starting to catch on and you hear it every once in a while after a save. It gets you going a little bit. It’s pretty fun to hear.”
“‘Moose’ is actually from a family friend who passed away my freshman year of college. He was a world champion moose caller. Ever since he passed away I put a moose on the back of my helmet. He’s been back there ever since having my back. Guys eventually started calling me ‘Moose.'”
so I guess we will start to hear some moose calling this coming season in the Dome after some big saves?

Brian Elliott @KidElls1
Calgary, I'm honored to become a #Flames . I've wanted this opportunity and am ready for it. Can't wait to play for the #CofRed

Always have come away impressed with Elliott. Seems like the perfect goaltender at this stage of the rebuilding Calgary Flames. Has some outstanding numbers including advanced numbers that show just how good he really has been for the last 3-5 years, regardless of being on a solid team like St Louis.
Seriously good job by Brad and his staff. This draft has me even more confident in Flames managements plan and execution of that plan.
Can't wait to see Elliott in Flames gear doing what he does.

Oilers suck.
Here's Elliott's 44-save special against the Blackhawks this post season. Shout out to Jay Bouwmeester on the Hawks' second goal, covering the pass to an invisible man behind the net instead of the matter-based Artem Anisimov who's in the most common place goals are scored.

I was hoping through everything that he would be Calgarys guy. I thought due to his cheap contract and the fact that he was a free agent year after next that he really would have never been let go by the Blues this year. Kick me in the tits again, it's been a good couple days for a change. Calgary will make the playoffs next year, you can #### suckin book that.

Keep getting more and more excited about this trade. I didn't really even consider the possibility of Elliot due to he and Allen both being signed for so cheap I didn't think the Blues would move him. Lucky for us he asked for a trade and good ole BT always working the phones snapped him up.
He doesn't even really have to be as good here as he was in St. Louis for this trade to improve our team, but if he is that good then the Flames are really going to have a solid shot at the playoffs next season. Hell, if he posts a 0.930 save % the Flames probably push for the division.
