Pittsburgh is definitely on a roll right now. Even a team as good as Washington is going to be in very tough to beat them in 3 consecutive games. Ever since the Penguins made those moves for Trevor Daley and Carl Hagelin they have been a much better team. The depth guys on the Penguins like Hagelin, Bonino, Matt Cullen, Connor Sheary have given the top guys some nice scoring support.
Matt Murray looks like he's making his claim to the net in Pittsburgh. I'd have Fleury on his way to Dallas this offseason if it wasn't for the fact that the Stars have 10.4 million spent in the net for the next 3 years, and have a fat chance of being able to move either guy with those contracts.

The only way it would be possible is if one was going back the other way to Pittsburgh IMO.
Makes cap hits work out, and gets the Penguins out from under Fleury's NMC.

That roster has everything you need to succeed. The fact they are falling flat on thier face and being outplayed and can't beat Murray who is no doubt, now in the Caps players heads..
It may be time to be looking at changing up that core.
Backstrom has not been very good. Ovie has been underwhelming and Holtby is looking rattled.
Sure there have been some bad bounces, but the Caps have had chances and can't beat Murray..
Winning 3 straight is very unlikely and if the Caps can't do it this year, it maybe time to start changing out some pieces..

Winning the cup has as much to do with things bouncing your way as it does having the best team and a hot goaltender on a lower seed can do major damage to the hopes of very good regular season teams as we have seen many times. We had the same conversation many times about the Penguins and maybe it's time to get rid of Malkin yet here they are looking like the favorites to represent the East in the Stanley Cup finals and Malkin has been a key player. Sure you can investigate changing out a piece but Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Holtby are the reason that team was so good in the regular season and moving out one of those pieces likely leads to an eventual downturn of the franchise.

I find it hilarious that Ovechkin always gets called out as a poor playoff performer (not in this thread or site specifically but in the media) when in reality he pretty much is the best player on the Caps night in and night out. Guys like Backstrom and Kuznetsov aren't even being mentioned in a lot of places.

Injuries are the other big factor in determining the Cup winner. If Tyler Johnson had played last years final without a broken wrist, Tampa might have been the winner and not the Hawks.

Hughson, Simpson, Healy, and Oake for the CBC.
Emrick and McGuire on NBC. Eddie Olczyk is not in the booth due to the Kentucky Derby.

Such a bad penalty by Backstrom, the Caps were dominating

Caps came out like gangbusters early and scored early but have really let the Pens back in since. Despite the Pens out shooting them 12-4 in the 1st it was a pretty even period.

I agree, that was a bad penalty. The power play has led to goals by both teams. The Penguins being caught with too many men is not a good penalty to take in the late stages of the period.

Man the Capitals always seem to be so tight in these big playoff games. Kuznetsov has been a playoff disappointment. 2 points in 10 games when you led the team in regular season scoring simply isn't good enough.

The Capitals are just... nothing is working. No execution right now. It's actually frustrating to watch.
EDIT: There, that rush was a perfect example. Just give it to Ovechkin, and Ovechkin, turn on the jets and rip one. It's pretty simple.
